Student Voice and Reflection 1 STUDENT VOICE AND REFLECTION Student Voice believes in the power of personal and collective reflection. Too often, one may consider reflection as synonymous for answering questions. However, we believe that reflection is more than just responding to questions, as it is a personal professional development practice, which can strengthen the connection between ourselves and with the world. W AYS TO E NGAGE IN R EFLECTION There is no single way or method to engage in reflection, as it is an experience, based on an individualtoindividual basis. One may find certain times and strategies for reflecting more helpful than another person, who may prefer other venues to achieve a similar affect. To either initiate or enhance your practice of reflection, we encourage you to consider the following strategies: Overview Ask yourself the following prompts that hold true for you: BigPicture Analysis How does this contribute or influence the ‘big picture’? ValueIdentification With the values I embody, how are they expressed in my actions and impact the community? ThoughtProvocative Prompts What did I learn? What challenged me? What surprised me? A compilation of our past experiences, personal feelings and opinions, which influence our present and future action. A learning moment in which one can share his or her surprises, insights, and challenges with a group. An expression to synthesize new information with one’s existing knowledge, thereby determining zones of congruity and areas of disparity. A catalyst to identify the personal values of one, to ensure those is exemplified through his or her actions, beliefs and attitudes. REFLECTION My Values My Action The Impact With my experiences, how have they in;luenced the way I see the world? What am I most proud of? Why? How does my leadership support fellow people in their leadership journey?
