INTRODUCTIONStaff development is the process directed
towards the personal and professional growth of nurses and other personnel while they are employed by a health care agency.
Staff development program helps in updating the knowledge and practice of professionals. It is applicable not only to the nursing field but all the other professions also.
DEFINITIONStaff development program refers to all
training and education provided by an employee to improve the occupational and personal knowledge, skill And attitude of vested employees.
GOALTo assist each employee to improve performance in his or her present position and to acquire personal and professional abilities that maximizes the possibility of career advancement.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME:Orientation programme is the process of acquiring a new staff with the existing work environment so that he/she can relate quickly to his / her new surrounding.SKILL TRAINING PROGRAMME:Skill training may be a manual or Technical skill of doing for people or skill in dealing and working well with people.

Research abstractEffects of a staff development program me on head nurses’ communication skills and job satisfaction Nahid Dehghan Nayeri et.al December 2012This study was conduced to identify the role of development program on communication skills and job satisfaction in head nurses. result of this study was the development programe of communication skills resulted in an increased level of communication skills in the head nurses. However, more effective steps have to be taken in professional and organization conditions to enhance head nurses’ job satisfaction level.
