A New Kind Of Website

Author Suzanne Palmieri (Hayes) and

her journey with Adobe Muse CC

“I wanted to create a story...not just a website. An experience…”

Deciding to design my own site

Last spring, I realized I’d need a new website. One that could

accommodate the fact that I write under two names, and one that would

be “liquid”, meaning it would display across varying devices and

browsers. Years ago I taught myself how to code. But I was curious

about Adobe’s new Creative Cloud software. It’s gotten mixed reviews,

but I found it exceptional. Here’s a little bit about my adventure...

What I wanted:

● An original design without

traditional padding, browser

fill and navigation bars.

● A website that reflected my

personality.

● A website to increase curiosity

about my novels and my brand.

BUT HOW?

Here’s how…..

Challenge: Getting rid of the classic layout (browser, padding, nav bar)

Resolution: Whimsical Menu design, original artwork, and anchoring the footer to the

page parameters.

Challenge: Fully expressing personality without obscuring important

information.

Resolution: I decided to place all of my elements inside of linear boxes.

That way, I could keep the phrasing under 250 words, be creative with

visuals, yet keep the boundaries uncluttered.

Challenge: As consumers, we are becoming increasingly visual. So, as an author,

“selling” my novels needed to be visual as well.

Resolution: I used a collage technique to convey the theme of THE WITCH OF LITTLE

ITALY.

And here’s the page for “I’LL BE SEEING YOU”

Challenge: In a new world where most events and news items are being broadcast

across social media, how can a static webpage keep up?

Resolution: I decided to make this page a “Buzz” page. Now, important news stories

are embedded, but links to constantly updated events are provided.

The Result: A fluid, flexible website that meets my own personal

needs. It captures my personality and the tone of my novels. I’m

really happy with Adobe and their Creative Cloud Software.
