It started out like any other day at the office…

Page 6: The Case of the Blended Content

I had just ventured out on my lunch break…. when she showed up

Page 7: The Case of the Blended Content

Hi ya boss.

Page 8: The Case of the Blended Content

Page 9: The Case of the Blended Content

On my lunch break?

Page 10: The Case of the Blended Content

Yeah, we don’t know what training delivery method to

Page 12: The Case of the Blended Content

Then she zoomed off into the cityscape…

Page 13: The Case of the Blended Content

We’ve got to solve this mystery. Help me figure out the clues …and fast. How do we match the right delivery with the right content?

Page 14: The Case of the Blended Content

Stakes are high and time is short.

Page 15: The Case of the Blended Content

The news of wrong delivery method was spreading…

Investigation Opened By Harry James Las Vegas, NV– It started out as just another normal day. Larry the Learner had just sat at his desk to embark on a learning journey. A journey that turned horrific within only a few moments. The result is unnecessary incident that could and should have been avoided by having the right instructional strategy coupled with the right content.

Today: Go see Learning Lady.

Page 19: The Case of the Blended Content

We need to visit one of the toughest L&D folks I know. The Learning

Lady.

Page 20: The Case of the Blended Content

Let’s get going to her favorite hangout.

Page 21: The Case of the Blended Content

On her lunch hour she hangs at a place called “The Dinner”

Page 22: The Case of the Blended Content

Yeah, she was a former school teacher. As wicked with the red pen as they come.

Oh, no I don’t.

It’s not “The Dinner.” It’s “The Diner.”

Page 23: The Case of the Blended Content

So tell me about learning deliverys.

…deliverys No! …deliveries Yes!

Page 24: The Case of the Blended Content

Plenty, but let’s see if you detectives can

think of any.

Page 29: The Case of the Blended Content
Page 30: The Case of the Blended Content

I can’t give you any more information. I have to go. To learn more, you must talk to…

Our conversation was over. She had to go.

“The King Pin.”

Page 34: The Case of the Blended Content

It was a short trip to The King Pin’s Office.

Page 35: The Case of the Blended Content

He appeared to be expecting me….

I was expecting you. I got a text you were coming.

Page 36: The Case of the Blended Content

Hello King Pin. Call me Bob.

Hi, ya Bob.

Page 37: The Case of the Blended Content

I need to know about OJT advantages and

pitfalls. I only know about

advantages..

Start talk’n Bob.

Actually, I think I’d like you to call me King Pin.

Page 38: The Case of the Blended Content

On-the-Job Training, OJT has lots of great

advantages. They include…

Page 39: The Case of the Blended Content

Allowance for one-to-one exchange of

knowledge.

Hands-on learning.

Cost effective.

Page 40: The Case of the Blended Content

Thanks, helpful but come on King Pin, spill the beans

on disadvantages.

Page 41: The Case of the Blended Content

Alright, alright, I do know some disadvantages.

But why don’t you tell me?

Page 42: The Case of the Blended Content
Page 43: The Case of the Blended Content

Not scalable.

Fundamentals are not always covered.

Very instructor and situational dependent.

Not always consistent.

Before you and your loser friends …go, here is a pack of matches.

You might want to start a fire.

Or, it might be a clue.

Page 69: The Case of the Blended Content

I arrived at the place on the matchbook, as shady as a pine grove at Midnight…

Page 70: The Case of the Blended Content

I found a scrap of paper on the ground. It was a clue alright.

alright.

Page 83: The Case of the Blended Content

To solve the mystery, you need to understand that a blended approach is the best. Think of your training strategy as a continuum and not

as a series of one-offs.

Page 84: The Case of the Blended Content

Also, you didn’t even factor in things like cost. OJT and Instructor-led are lower cost initially but higher cost in the long run. For

classes that run more than once.

Page 85: The Case of the Blended Content

So, the bottom line is that you need all three Instructor-led, OJT and eLearning to

have the most instructional and cost effective approach.

Page 86: The Case of the Blended Content

Alright, detectives let’s close the case.

Page 87: The Case of the Blended Content

It was starting to look like the case wouldn’t end so easily….

Wait. This case is not going to end so easily.

Did you see this morning’s paper?

Page 88: The Case of the Blended Content
Page 89: The Case of the Blended Content

I’ll conduct an investigation

alright.

Page 90: The Case of the Blended Content

But now…I’m out of time. We’ll solve that case in a future presentation.

Page 91: The Case of the Blended Content

But lucky for you, UL EduNeering has a

whitepaper on this topic. Get it today!
