el hijo – son la esposa - wife
la hija – daughter el esposo - husband
When talking about groups of people, notice we use the masculine form
los padres = the parents
los hermanos = siblings
los abuelos = the grandparents
los tíos = the aunt and uncle
los primos = boy and girl cousins
el padre de tú padre es…

For Unidad 4, Lección 3 Hablar, you need to pick one of the options and speak several sentences to answer the questions:
¿Cómo eres tú?
Me llamo Señora Epting. Yo vivo in Raleigh Carolina del Norte. Yo soy athlética y inteligente. Yo tengo dos hermanos. Tengo un hermano se llama Mark y un hermano se llama Chris. No tengo una hermana.
¿Cómo es tu familia?
En mi familia hay cuatro personas. Soy yo, mi esposo, mi hija Rachel y mi hija Madison. Me llamo Señora Epting. Mi esposo se llama William. Mihija Rachel tiene veintitres años. Mi hija Madison tiene veinte años.
*use Tener for age *se llama = his/her name
Describing someone older or younger than you
If someone is older than you, use the phrase “mayor que…”
Mi hermana es mayor que yo.
If someone is younger than you, use the phrase “menor que…”
Mi hermano es menor que yo.

When talking about professions, you change the ending to match the gender of the person you are talking about
A lawyer el abogado (male lawyer) la abogada (female lawyer)
A mechanic el mecánico (male mechanic) la mecánica (female mechanic)
A teacher el maestro (male teacher) la maestra (female teacher)
A server el camarero (male server) la camarera (female server)
A firefighter el bombero (male firefighter) la bombera (female firefighter)
A cook el cocinero (male cook) la cocinera (female cook)
A soldier el soldado (male soldier) la soldada (female soldier)
For a police officer, only change the definite article el policía (male) la policía (female)
For a doctor, only change the definite article el doctor (male) la doctor (female)
