Our News Purpose

This will be a social media website where people are able to report news themselves and are able to have discussions with events which are happening all over the world with other users. There will be a multiple different people from lots of different backgrounds which can share their opinion. What I would like the website to become is a platform where people can share there ideas about how to help change the world and from there they can get more ideas and inspire people to do the same.

Our News Home Page

The picture connotes a more powerful message when reporting compared to just the text. It can also enhance the understanding of what has happened.

The red connotes importance and urgency which is appropriate of a news social media.

The white also connotes purity that the news in all real and true without anything left out and it is clear.

The heading and banner for Our News has a rough text which shows that the news isn’t always nice the stories reported are detailed.

There are also other social media within my social media which people can login through or see our profiles on that specific social media site.

The news is split into local news and global news so that it is more personal and interesting for users. They can also related to the website more.

The connotations of this image is that it is a door where people can enter into the website. They are able to go into something new and learn something through this door.

Our News - Sign Up Page

The global connotes that there is news happening all over the world which is being reported and the pictures connote that there are lots of different types of news from politics to sports which the website covers

The red text connotes that the information is important and this grabs the eyes of the users.

The red boxes also connote importance and they are sections which the users must enter data.

The important policies which the users need to know about are red so connotes the importance to them as they need to read it.

This is an advert which stands out from the rest of the content which connotes that it is not part of the website and has an external link to it. This is because it is in a box on its own and has nothing to do with the website.

Third Party Advert

A third party pop up advert will be an optional form of advertisement on Our News. This is an advert which will appear taking up the full screen when the user first goes onto the page. The pop up will mean the advert will appear in another window or just over the current page.

Commented page

For Our News it is based around ‘Citizen Journalism’ (Gillmor - 2004), where a collection and analysis of news and information by the general public (‘Our News’ Users), especially by means of the Internet. The comments which people leave are where people will analysis news information. They can then form an opinion and discuss what they think about current affairs. This form of journalism is where the public are relied on to report on new information and this is especially related to posts on the internet by individuals not business (for example The Guardian).

The reason for this type of journalism is that it is more personal and isn’t designed to be popular or make money with flashy titles like in newspapers. This makes it a more genuine report on events where people can add their opinion. Also, there is more freedom for people to talk about what they want as it is more in a blogging style compared to sales.

Signing Up with other Social media products

The are also other ways in which people are sign up and login to Our News. You will be able to login with Facebook. This is important as it will be easier for other users to be able to use Our news as they are able to sign up quicker. It is also simpler as most users will probably already have a Facebook account so all they need to do in enter their login information. This could even encourage users to make an account as they might not understand or can’t be bothered to enter lots of their details into making a normal account without Facebook.

About Us

Web Standards ProjectThe WaSP will affect my social media product due to their standards which will be used to check my website is complete and compatible to be able to put onto the web. As it would fragment the web if everyone didn’t. The W3C recommends CSS and XML to use in building a website. These are compatible on the web. Which means that I will be using them when creating my social media product. This means I can put my product on the web and it is safe to use and abides their web standards.

W3C GuidelinesOn my social media I will need to make sure that it is accessible to people with disabilities. By following the guidelines it will promote accessibility for all users. It will also make finding information easier and quicker. They also help make multimedia more accessible to a wider audience so the use of pictures and videos is not discouraged. For my website there are few thing within the guidelines which I need to be aware of.When I am changing which page the user is on I need to make sure I need to give them the option to close down; spawned windows, pop-ups and other windows which may appear as a result from my website or an advert. I must also make sure that when changing the current page I must inform users of this. I must make sure that any elements that has its own interface can be operated in a device-independent manner.
