WHAT IS VIRTUAL REALITY

▸ A computer generated world with which user can interact is called Virtual Environment.

▸ This interaction can vary from looking around to interactively modifying the world.

THE DEFINITION

▸A computer generated immersive or wide field multi sensory information which tracks user In real time.

TYPES OF VIRTUAL REALITY

▸ There are following types of virtual reality.

▸ Immersive

▸ Window on world

▸ TelePresence

▸ Mixed Reality

Page 6: Virtual Reality Cinema Introduction

IMMERSIVE VIRTUAL REALITY

▸ The Immersive Virtual Reality System completely involve the users personal viewpoint in the virtual world Like a person experiencing cave scene

HMD HEAD MOUNTED DISPLAY

▸ This is a helmet or face mask that holds the visual and auditory displays.

▸ In immersive system a large projection displays are used to create a virtual background such as room or cave.

WINDOW ON WORLD VIRTUAL REALITY

▸ Some systems uses conventional computer monitor to display visual world. This sometimes called Desktop Virtual reality or Window on World (WoW)

Page 9: Virtual Reality Cinema Introduction

TELE PRESENCE VIRTUAL REALITY

▸ Telepresence is variation to visualise complete computer generated world.

▸ This is a technology which links the remote sensors with the senses of human operator in real world.

▸ Fire fighters uses remote controlled vehicles to operate some dangerous conditions. This vehicles are equipped with Telepresence systems.

Page 10: Virtual Reality Cinema Introduction

MIXED VIRTUAL REALITY

▸ Merging the Telepresence and Virtual reality systems gives the mixed virtual reality or seamless simulation.

▸ A fighter pilot can see computer generated maps and scenes data displays in there fancy HMD that is Helmet visor or cockpit displays.

▸ In this type of virtual reality user can see, Hear virtual world and can operate that world by using Telepresence.

VIRTUAL REALITY HARDWARE

▸ There are multiple specialized types of Hardware devices that has been developed or used for virtual reality applications.

▸ VR Hardware

Image Generators

Manipulation & control devices

Stereo Vision

Head mounted Displays

IMAGE GENERATORS

▸ One of the most time consuming task in Virtual Reality is generation of images.

▸ Fast computer graphics opens a large range of applications aside from virtual reality.

▸ So there is a market demand for graphic acceleration for long while.

▸ There are number of vendors selling image generator cards for PC level machines which ranges from $2000 to $10000

MANIPULATION & CONTROL DEVICES▸ One key element for interaction to the

virtual world that is tracking the position of real world objects such as head or hand.

▸ The conventional control devices are mouse, trackball, or joystick

▸ Some common used VR control device is Instrumented Glove.

▸ The use of Glove is to manipulate objects in the computer by using inbuilt sensors which fitted on fingers for tracking.

STEREO VISION▸ Stereo vision is also included in virtual

reality system.

▸ This is accomplished by creating two different images of the world one for each eye.

▸ The images can projected through differently polarized filters this filters are placed in front of our eyes.

▸ When this images are shown on this vision in rapid speed then brain fuses this two images in a single image & can get 3d experience.

VR HEAD MOUNTED DISPLAYS (HMD)▸ A head-mounted display (or helmet-

mounted display, for aviation applications), both abbreviated HMD, is a display device, worn on the head or as part of a helmet, that has a small display optic in front of one (monocular HMD) or each eye (binocular HMD).

▸ There is also an optical head-mounted display (OHMD), which is a wearable display that has the capability of reflecting projected images as well as allowing the user to see through it.

APPLICATIONS OF VIRTUAL REALITY

▸ Architecture

▸ Medicine

▸ Engineering & Design

▸ Training

▸ Manufacturing

▸ Entertainment

Page 18: Virtual Reality Cinema Introduction

ARCHITECTURE▸ For many years virtual reality has

been used to establish models of architectural models and buildings before construction begins.

▸ It can also be used to reconstruct building which is collapsed or damaged or to determine how this happened & the steps needed prevent the situation in the future.

MEDICAL▸ The medical field uses virtual

reality in many ways.

▸ The most common implementation of the technology is to combine images provided by other scans and merge them to present the details, using medical imaging technology

▸ This helps doctors diagnose problems without performing surgery.

ENGINEERING & DESIGN

▸ This lathe is used to train apprentices.

▸ Unlimited free material and no clean up!

TRAINING FIELD

▸ United states uses VR as flight simulator to train pilots. With VR training huge saving of fuel, electricity, wear & tear could be effected.

ENTERTAINMENT FIELD

▸ In high definition Television, VR is used for highly resolute output. Also for motion games.

VIRTUAL REALITY CINEMA

▸ If you’re following the news, it’s hard to imagine you haven’t heard anything about virtual reality lately. Experts already named 2016 the year of virtual reality. The technique was first adopted by gaming fans but now many more industries are embracing virtual reality. Still VR is not accessible for everybody and a lot of people are new to this experience. The VR Cinema is here to change all that.

BETA TESTING

▸ The VR Cinema is a concept by &samhoud media that originated in the form of Europe’s first virtual reality pop-up cinema which toured through several big cities in The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and now settles in Amsterdam. After the grand opening in the Dutch capital cities like Madrid, Berlin, Paris and London will be in for their very own VR Cinema some time soon.

WHY VIRTUAL REALITY CINEMA

▸ Going to the movies gets a whole new dimension in The VR Cinema. It offers you the opportunity to watch movies like you’ve (probably) never done before. For one, crisping bags of chips, ringing mobile phones and noisy visitors belong to the past. Furthermore, there are no traditional red cinema chairs and also the big white screen is nowhere to be seen. So what do you get?

VR HEAD SETS

▸First of all: a Samsung Galaxy S6 that, in combination with the Samsung Gear VR, transports you to an whole other world. A world that was inaccessible a few moments before. The Samsung Gear VR is without a doubt one of the very best virtual reality glasses there are. The Samsung Gear VR is a light-weight portable virtual reality headset, so there is no hassle with cords or wires. Also, the Gear VR is easy to put on or off and the straps on the side make it simple to adjust them to the right size. On top of the Gear VR is a turning wheel, which allows you to adjust focus. That makes the VR-headset suitable for people with glasses as well.

360 DEGREES CHAIRS

▸Because of the immersive nature of the VR-movies the characteristic red cinema chairs have been replaced by custom made turning chairs. This allows you to freely look around and see what’s happening above, below, behind, in front, on the right and on the left side of you. So no sore neck, we promise.

HEADPHONES

▸More and more virtual reality movies do not only contain 360 degrees images, but also sound that in a way moves in the same direction as your head. This adds a special dimension to the virtual experience. During the show everybody gets his own Sennheiser HD 201 headphones. These headphones are light-weighted, adjustable, comfortable and above all, offer excellent sound quality.

VR BASED GAMES

▸VR based games are developed on gaming engines like Unity or Unreal Engine.

▸The games are first modelled and animated on 3D applications by keeping 360 look and feel in the environment, and then coded in the gaming engines.

▸Unity provide Google Cardboard SDK support, and many phone based VR games are currently under development in Unity.

VR FILMS & GEARS

▸Unlike gaming, the VR cinema relies more on the hardware such as VR cameras and 3D sound recorders.

▸You can view the films on HMDs like Oculus Rift, or on Mobile Phones through VR Headsets.
