BELT DRIVE

Belt-drive is one of the most common and effective means for transmission of motion from one shaft to another shaft.

TYPES OF BELT DRIVE Open Belt Drive. Crossed Belt Drive. Quarter Twist Drive. Right Angle Drive. Stepped Pulley Drive. Fast And Loose Pulley Drive. Compound Drive.

OPEN BELT DRIVE

EXPLANATION: Above show figure of open belt

drive .In this drive the shaft are arranged in parallel and they rotate in same direction.

CROSSED BELT DRIVE

EXPLANATION: When the shafts are parallel but need

to be rotate in opposite direction, this drive is used.

As the belt cross each other, there will be too much wear and tear.

QUARTER TWIST DRIVE

EXPLANATION: The shafts are at right angel and rotate

in the same definite direction ( Clockwise and Anti clockwise).

The face of the pulley should be wide enough, not allowing the belt to leave the pulleys.

RIGHT ANGEL DRIVE

EXPLANATION: It is used with shafts with axis making

90 degree with each other and where the type of arrangement shown in figure, is not possible.

It may also be used when reversible motion is required.

STEPPED PULLEY DRIVE

EXPLANATION: This is used for stepped change in speed of

driven shaft for constant speed of driving shaft.

FAST AND LOOSE PULLEY DRIVE

EXPLANATION: This type of drive is used when the

driving shafts rotates continuously but the driven is to be rotated and stopped too often .

There are two pulleys mounted on the driven shaft, a fast and a loose .

The fast pulley is keyed to the shaft while the loose pulley can rotate freely on the shaft.

When the driven shaft is to be stopped , the belt is pushed to the loose pulley with the help of a lever.

COMPOUND DRIVE

EXPLANATION

This type of drive is used when several shafts are driven from one central shaft.
