After my research on similar trailers I have learnt that my trailer will have to show a bit about the story line but not give it away so it keeps the audience gripped on the film.

My trailer will introduce the characters throughout and give away a preview of what they are like conventionally, for example popular, geek etc.

It will show the setting of the film, and the characters in the settings. They tend to show a famous actor in the trailer so the audience recognize

it more. Throughout the trailer it shows text describing the scenes better, and a

voice over to describe it too. Most trailers have music fit the genre for example teen comedy’s, the

music is more upbeat to show the youthfulness. They tend to show the name of the film and the credits and release date

at the end of the trailer so the audience remember it better.

Main task

Trailers I analysed.

Page 3: Summary of audience research

To find out my target audience and what they would want in my main task I did a questionnaire using survey monkey.

Throughout my questionnaire I found out that my target audience would be teenagers from ages 15-19 year olds which fit my genre of a teen comedy. I asked them many questions of what they would expect in a trailer and many of them said a sample of the film without giving away the plot and show lots of comedy. To appeal to my audience I will need to use upbeat music and lots of comedy scenes to draw them in to the trailer. I know this as I asked my audience what they liked about teen comedy’s and they all said the comedy of it. One of the other questions of my questionnaire was what are there interests. I asked this so I could understand what my target audience enjoy so if I added some of their on interests in to my main task it would appeal the them better. Many of my audience said they enjoyed partying, drinking and hanging out with friends which is conventional for my teen comedy. Many of them would expect in a teen comedy; partying, sex and humour.

Teen comedy’s; All the ages of the characters are ages 16-18 year olds. The teenagers are separated in to stereo typical groups for

example jocks, geeks etc. Sometimes use adults in the film to show the contrast in between

the ages. The setting of the film is usually in a school to show the ages of

the characters and that they are in school. But is also set in places like a party area to show the convention of a teen comedy etc.

The movie will be based on teenagers trying to get through school life, going to parties and losing their virginities. These are all main conventional story lines of teen comedies.

Main task – Teen comedy’s

Page 5: Summary of audience research

Throughout a teen comedy they usually have fast paced editing to make the scenes seem faster and more youthful and energetic which is what a teenager usually is.

They use different aspects of sound, for example there usually is upbeat music to again make the scenes more youthful and energetic. The dialogue is usually talking about parties and sex etc and uses some swearing.

The mise-en-scene used throughout the movie would be that costume of the characters will be depending on their stereotypical group for example if they are popular they would dressed differently to the geeks. The setting of the film is usually in a school or party atmosphere. Props used in the film will be based on what is happening in the scenes, for example if their is a party scene there will be props like alcohol.

Camerawork used in the scenes are normally shots like establishing shots to show the scenes better and long shots to show all of the character so you can see what they are wearing etc.

Technical Elements.
