Research Activities

As the part of Coconut Neera research, a protocol has been standardized for detecting thealcohol content of Neera qualitatively. This method has lot of significance in the commercialviability of SCMS Neera technology. We applied this technique in raw Neera purchased fromVytilla Hub. The data shows that the Neera collected by chilling technology contain less than6% alcohol equivalent to sweet toddy. This is due to low temperature fermentation happenedduring harvesting by chiller device at 4°C. In the case of Neera collected by AFX method, the protocol of detecting ethanol in commercial Neera can be an effective method fordetermining the manipulation of Neera industry.
