All my life, I have been the very opposite of “a business person.” In fact, if any project had the word “money” attached to it, I was automatically against it. In my mind, money was the cause of all evil – or in any case, it was the cause of the corruption of millions of humans and thus the cause of the exploitation and destruction of our natural world and of the slavery, torture and death of millions of animals and humans.

I studied Literature – partly because I have always been magically attracted to everything imaginative and creative but partly perhaps also because it was a choice that seemed to guarantee that I would never exploit anybody myself (because I would never make much money).

Then, last year, one of my friends invited me to what he called “a really exciting business presentation.” My first reaction was, of course, “Business presentation? Me? You must be kidding!” However, since I hadn’t seen him in a while and since he really wanted me to come, I grudgingly agreed, in particular since I happened to have a bit more time that week because I had hurt my back a few days earlier and couldn’t go to any Aikido and Yoga classes….

The business presentation was about Lyoness and removed my prejudices against “business” and “making money” forever, since Lyoness came up with a unique business model that involves no exploi-tation at all! Instead, everybody wins, and nobody loses – not even the environment!

What totally convinced me was the fact that Lyoness gives a certain percentage of every single trans-action conducted through it to Greenfinity, a charity that supports the development of sustainable technology. This means that even when you buy gas you are at least ALSO funding the development of alternative energy to a degree, provided you buy your gas through a Lyoness Loyalty Merchant (Petro Canada, for instance).

Everybody whom I told about my idea found it extremely convincing and encouraged me to go ahead. Unfortunately, starting an alternative university from scratch costs tons of money, and I didn’t HAVE any money. I only worked as a sessional/adjunct at UBC & FDU Vancouver, which meant, I had a moderate income from September to April but made basically nothing during the four summer months. This forced me to max out my credit cards each summer and then gradually pay back my debts during the two winter terms…. No bank would even give me a mortgage to buy a small apartment under these conditions, let alone finance the foundation of a whole university….

The business presentation about Lyoness I heard that day showed me that the possibility of funding my alternative university without exploiting anybody (and without needing a mortgage from any bank ) was real. In fact, it was dangling right in front of my nose. All I had to do was take it and start to make my dream come true….

I also realized that Lyoness would not only give me the chance to make my own dream become reality in the foreseeable future, but that it also offered the opportunity to help end the existing worldwide exploitation by introducing as many of the 99% as possible to this unique organization and thus show them a way to free themselves from the 1% who currently own and control the world - while at the same time creating more funding for two worthwhile charities: Greenfinity and the Child and Family Foundation.

Needless to say, I signed up with Lyoness right away. Imagination is good for something in the business world as well: it helps us see all the possibilities – and the possibilities that Lyoness offers during this expansion phase are both obvious and mind-boggling, in particular if the “right” people see them: the people who, like me, want to create a better, happier, and more sustainable world.

I believe that Lyoness is a gift offered to humanity at the very last minute to help prevent the collapse of our world. It is a gift that can help all of us work together to create a peaceful, global, harmonious, happy, and sustainable future.
