We’ve taken steps.

We at RadiciSpandex join our esteemed colleagues in the global textile industry in the shared concern for our planet’s ecosystem, not only for our immediate future but for the futures of generations to come.

To this end, we are doing our part to contribute to the industry’s efforts to maximize efficiency, minimize waste, and utilize our assets in the best possible manner to positively impact the environment and achieve sustainable business practices.

RadiciSpandex approaches the Green Movement in three ecologically-sensitive spheres of influence:

RecyclingInitiativeInnovation

RadiciSpandex Recycling

• We recover and recycle manufacturing products and by-products that could in any way burden the ecosystem.

• We re-dissolve minor excess fiber resulting from our production process and re-spin it to maximize usage of raw materials.

• We re-use plastic tray separators that protect spandex tubes packed for shipment. Any trays returned by customers with damages are sent to recyclers.

• We recycle cardboard boxes rather than send them to landfills.

• We installed electric hand dryers at our facilities to reduce paper waste.

RadiciSpandex Initiative• As a proud member of the global conglomerate RadiciGroup,

RadiciSpandex is known for personalized, expert customer service and continually looks for ways to improve our processes so we can enhance the textile community’s Green efforts.

• We introduced a tapeout in the form of a 3-inch-wide fiber board strip, eliminating the wasteful use of cardboard and paper products.

• We engineered a new packaging wind that reduces spandex scrap after warping.

• We replaced bleached paper with kraft in our RadElast shipping case and beam packaging to eliminate the use of bleaching chemicals, thereby reducing green house gas emissions, wastewater production and carbon footprint.

• Our technical sales experts provide customers on-site operations analysis and recommendations for logistical improvements to conserve raw materials and boost operating efficiency.

No matter the shade, our colored spandex is always “green.”RadiciSpandex produces a wide range of colored spandex fibers – including our premium black spandex SRB -- which eliminate fiber grin-through when spandex-containing fabrics are stretched.

As a result, fabric manufacturers are able to use less dye, thereby reducing their contribution to waste water.

Domestic Sourcing = Reduced Carbon FootprintRadiciSpandex is proud to be one of the few remaining fiber producers that manufacture in the United States. We have our headquarters in Gastonia, NC, and a state-of-the-art production facility in Tuscaloosa, AL.

Our products are NAFTA, CAFTA, CBI and Andean Pact compliant.

Sourcing spandex fiber in the U.S. reduces your product life cycle’s carbon footprint:

• Closer proximity reduces fuel consumption;• Quicker delivery turnaround enhances the overall productivity of supply chain;• Eliminates accidental ocean dumping.

RadiciGroup Eco InitiativesRadiciSpandex Corp.’s parent company, RadiciGroup, believes a company can grow more effectively while respecting the environment. Therefore, notwithstanding the costs and constraints imposed by eco-compatible conduct, the Group is committed to continue implementing its action plan, which goes well beyond the laws and regulations currently in force.

The RadiciGroup Eco action plan includes the following components:

Reducing polluting emissions Since 2006, two of RadiciGroup’s most important production sites, Radici Chimica in Italy and Radici Chimica Deutschland GmbH in Germany, have used a new technology to significantly reduce nitrous oxide emissions as well as air pollution.

Closer monitoring of manufacturing through vertical synergy

RadiciGroup’s vertical integration allows the Group to closely monitor and autonomously manage every process at each stage of the production chain, from chemicals to plastics and from synthetic fibres to finished product.

Optimal plant performance through technological innovation

RadiciGroup divisions Radici Chimica Deutschland GmbH and RadiciSpandex Corp. ensure best practices and maximum efficiency in their sectors due to recent capital investments to maximize efficiencies in their respective manufacturing processes.

Participation in Responisible Care® RadiciGroup participates in the chemical industry’s Responsible Care® initiative under which companies implement guiding principles on employee health and safety and environmental protection.

Partnering with academia on R&D RadiciGroup collaborated with Bolonga University on a research project to evaluate using air as an oxidizing agent instead of nitric acid to produce adipic acid; RadiciGroup presented the study findings at the 2008 National Congress of the Industrial Chemical Division of the Italian Chemical Society.

RadiciGroup Eco InitiativesRecycling plastics RadiciGroup promotes the reuse of production waste not only in its Plastics area,

but at all production sites within its global network. RadiciGroup presented its philosophy on plastics recycling at the most recent conference of the Italian Association of Plastics Technicians (TMP) in Padua, Italy.

Alternative and renewable energy RadiciGroup, with the support of GeoGreen, an environmentally responsible energy supplier, promotes using environmentally friendly, alternative and renewable energy sources; The Group’s Radici Yarn division installed a DLE turbine at its co-generation plant in 2008, noticeably reducing its nitrogen oxide emissions.

Compliance with the European Community Directive on Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control

RadiciGroup’s Radici Yarn SpA holds an integrated environmental authorization allowing it to take on responsibilities toward the environment and the community hosting its production site and submitting to periodic audits and inspections by public bodies to verify its compliance with prevailing environmental legislation.

ISO 14000 Environmental Management Certification

RadiciGroup divisions Radici Yarn SpA, Radici Novacips SpA and Radici Chimica Deutschland GmbH possess the ISO 14001 certificate while Radici Chimica SpA is on track to be certified in 2009.

Reduced CO2 emissions Since 2007, RadiciGroup has reduced its fleet’s CO2 emissions by more than 10%; CO2 is considered the major cause of global warming and climate change.

Alternative transportation to improve efficiency and reduce emissions

RadiciGroup division Radici Chimica SpA transitioned shipments from road transportation to rail throughout Italy and the rest of Europe, reducing the number of trucks on Italian roads alone by 5,000 in 2008 .

Environmentally-friendly work environment

In 2008 RadiciGroup introduced Greentainer, a modular workspace to be used by its employees informally or for training courses, meetings and events. The space is highly eco-compatible, with minimal usage of non-renewable energy sources.

Paperless communication RadiciGroup has shifted most of its communication efforts online to reduce paper waste.
