Corrosion Block vs Main Competitors' Products Corrosion block features several corrosion prevention inhibitors, whereas most of the other products consist of only one or two and their other features are far less developed and tested than the high standards of Corrosion Blocks chemistry. Some of the main corrosion prevention products encountered thus far, by speaking to other companies include: Wurth Anti Corrosion aerosol spray, Scottoiler FS 365, Corrosion X, Qu ick Silver’s Corrosion Guard, Fuchs ANTICORIT G70, etc. The following is the reply I have obtained from Corrosion Block’s technical department in Canada. Wurth Anti Corrosion Aerosol Spray is Flammable, Toxic and contains only 1 corrosion inhibiting ingredient. Corrosion Block Aerosol is: Non-Flammable, Non-Toxic and contains 4-seperate corrosion inhibitors. Scottoiler FS 365 aerosol is Non-Flammable, but is not approved for use on electrical connectors. It is effective but must be re-applied after contact with rain (will wash off). Corrosion Block aerosol is Non- Conductive and totally Hydrophobic (extremely water resistant) and recommended for "all" electrical connectors and systems and will last up to 24 months below deck. Corrosion X is Flammable and to our knowledge has never been tested as to toxicology. We believe it is has toxicity, but not to a great degree. It contains 1 corrosion inhibitor that is similar to the one found in the Wurth product. Customers who have tried both products tell us....Corrosion Block out performs Corrosion X hands down. Corrosion X also doesn’t have the l ifetime of use that Corrosion Block provides. Quick Silver’s Corrosion Guard aerosol leaves a "dry film" that is not designed to be applied to areas that are already wet or where corrosion is present. The product is "toxic" and is very flammable. It is also not recommended for electronics, as the propellant within the products causes electronic wiring to become hard and brittle. We can also say with confidence that Corrosion Block Grease is equal to or better based on the specifications we have read on Quick Silver grease. Fuchs ANTICORIT G70 is highly toxic and poses a cancer risk. Protective clothing and respirator are prescribed for safe use by the operator. The product contains flammable propellants and has to be applied in strictly monitored conditions to ensure safety for the operator and the environment. Containers also pose a contamination risk to the environment and must be properly disposed of. Fluid Film is formulated from "sheep wax" otherwise known as lanolin and a petroleum oil. Good moisture barrier but from our testing not a good moisture displacing film in most applications. It would not be recommended for sensitive electronics and leaves quite a "heavy" film. The propellant used is propane/butane which is very flammable. WD-40 will harm many types of plastics and will cause wire insulation to become brittle. Care would be suggested if it was going to be used on these items...and of course it too is very flammable. Q20 is a good penetrating lubricant, but offers very limited corrosion protection as it washes out easily when exposed to salt water, after tests were conducted. The product is highly flammable and it is therefore not recommended for use on sensitive electronics. Q20 has to be replaced many times to stand a chance of offering the results obtained from a single Corrosion Block coating of a similar surface during testing done in South Africa. Overall Corrosion Block has been used in the Marine environment all over the world for more than 20yrs and longer than many of the above mentioned products, but has had only limited exposure in South Africa. With the added exposure and promotional activities taking place in South Africa, more and more people and companies will become aware of Corrosion Block and its range of fantastic products and how they can help to combat corrosion and the damage it causes. There is already a growing list of distribution outlets stocking the products and a wide range of companies that have tested and switched to Corrosion Block for their corrosion prevention requirements.
