Retailers Missing Out on Cross
Border eCommerce Boom
The unprecedented growth in cross border
eCommerce will see 16% of all online
shopping transactions made with foreign
retailers this year, totaling an impressive
$112bn. By 2018 this is expected to rise to
over $320bn annually, however, many
merchants in Australia, New Zealand and across Asia will not see any benefits from this
because they are being held back by complex factors, such as multiple currencies,
security and speed.
Recent research by The Paypers found:
Australian online shoppers spent more on average per order than anyone else
in the world ($142) in 2013
79% of Australians who shop online currently purchase from overseas sites
Over 25% of Australian online expenditure goes to overseas-based websites
Australia’s import policies are favorable for cross border commerce
Online spending in the international market is growing at a faster rate (15% a year)
than domestic online sales (10% a year)
We spent time with John Banfield, TNS’ Senior Vice President and General Manager of
the Asia Pacific Payments Division, to learn more about the opportunities and challenges
presented by cross border eCommerce and what steps retailers can take to claim their
piece of this market.

Heartbleed Update
When news of the Heartbleed SSL
Security Bug spread at the beginning of
April, TNS’ Security and Operations
teams quickly sprang into action to
ensure the confidentiality, integrity and
availability of sensitive cardholder data
on our network.
TNS’ internet-facing services were
unaffected by the Heartbleed Bug.
There are a number of TNS and open-
source applications in use on the TNS
network which utilize OpenSSL
cryptography libraries, where the
vulnerability existed, however, analysis
and scanning confirmed that no TNS
internal applications were susceptible
to the bug.
This event has led many customers to
ask us what would have happened if we
had been affected so we caught up with
Kent Kling, TNS' Vice President of
Global Security, to find out more.
