INTRODUCTION

In this PDF, we will present the planning that a referee makes from

the day when the match is assigned until he gets home after finishing it.

With this document, we want that people know a little more about a day of

a football referee.

Many times in the football pitch we can hear phrases like " the

referee come here , arbitrate , take the money and go," well , this sentence

is far from reality, the performance of a referee in a football match takes

much more work , that the match itself.

Surely, every game is different and the planning is not the same , for

example there is a big change depending on the match category.

So, in this publication we will focus on matches in which a trio of

referees is used.

NOTIFICATION OF THE MATCH

A week before the match, the referee already knows the match that

he will arbitrate and the two assistant referees that he will take with him,

since this moment, the referees will plan the travel and the clothes that they

will wear in the match.

During the week before the match, the referee search for information

to help him in the game. Normally, they usually look the positions held by

each team in the classification, to try to find out what kind of match it will

be.

They also look the way that the teams play, to know their movements

and help him in the placing in the field.

On the other hand, the referee looks for the number of cards that the

players have to know if there are players with sanction. Finally, he looks

the color of the uniforms of the teams, to avoid problems with colors on the

match day.

BEFORE STARTING THE MATCH

The referee is the charge of collecting the assistant referees in their

homes and go to the football pitch together.

The three referees must wear formal clothes, shirt and long pants ,

sometimes , some referees wear a suit.

Normally, the referees come to the football pitch 1 hour or 1 hour

and a half before the start of the match.

When they get to the football pitch, they are the responsible for

reviewing the pitch to see if everything is okay. Also, they collect the cards

of the players and they write the football record.

Minutes before the match, they review one by one the players to

verify that the clothes they wear are the correct, then, they make the draw

to see what team will start the match.

HALF TIME

In the half time of the match, the referees will review if all the

referees have pointed the same cards, the goals and the substitutions , if

have been any.

Before returning to start the second half, they will check again that

all is well on the pitch and the clothes of the players.

THE END OF THE MATCH

When the match finish, the referees review all that they have pointed

and they start writing the match record, once they have completed the

review, they need to verify that there are no faults. Then, they will call to

the delegates of the teams.

Along with the delegates of the teams, they review another time the

match record. The referee is the charge to read to the delegates the match

record to see if they agree or there is some error.

If everything is correct, the referee closes the match record, they

go to the showers and they return home.
