Image credit: Google.Google Fiber eyes new citiesAlphabet’s Google is considering bringing its high-peed Internet service to Jacksonville, Tampa and Oklahoma City. The company said in a blog post that the cities were chosen because their “growing tech-hubs have a strong entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to small business growth.” Google Fiber is currently available in three cities and coming to six more. The service experienced one of its first major outages recently, in Kansas City.

Apple’s sales in China are boomingThe company reported its fourth quarter fiscal 2015 results recently, and China was a major bright spot. For the full fiscal year, sales spiked 84% and operating margins jumped to 39% in the Greater China region — up from 35% in fiscal 2014. Operating income also improved in the region to $23 billion for the fiscal year. Much of the growth comes from China’s iPhone demand, and next year the company plans to increase Apple Store locations in the country from 25 to 40.

IBM buys The Weather Company’s digital assetsIBM said it will purchase the digital assets of The Weather Company (owner of The Weather Channel), including weather data, mobile apps and websites. As a result, The Weather Channel will license weather data from IBM, though the TV channel will operate as its own business. IBM hopes to pair weather data with its Watson computer system and predict weather information for businesses.

Verizon announced it will set up a separate 4G LTE network for small Internet of Things devices that need to transmit limited amounts of data. Verizon wants to bring down the cost of connecting Internet of Things devices to a network, and says some devices running on the new network won’t have a monthly charge. The carrier expects the new network to be up and running by March 2016.

Twitter wants to generate money from logged-out usersTwitter CEO Jack Dorsey said that the company is testing a system that shows ads to logged-out users, whether they have a Twitter account or not. The company is trying to find new ways to make money off of people who visit its website, especially since the company only added 4 million new users in its recent third quarter. Twitter says it currently has 500 million logged-out users.
