Timesaver tools: Focus on efficient workflows
• Schedule a writing or content creation time and do as much work as you can in that time frame- reuse what you can
• Search for content written about you - links to your
posts, RT (retweets), newspaper articles, etc. to see if there is anything you can reuse (such as links, or presentations you can embed in your content)

Timesaver tools: Be smart
• Don't just broadcast; share, network, communicate & create
• Don't make your presence private!
Maximizing Your Social Media Presence: Tools and Tips to Save You Time and Effort
Engaging staff in social media & training(Getting help!)• Choose the best resource for your department -
where your users are and what works best for you..
• Provide support - training, time, tools!• Make it part of work – show staff how they
contribute to the voice of your library. Focus on useful, timeshaving, and again, relevant.
• Show them how it can help them - promote resources, communication tool, etc.
• Provide guidance on how to participate in social media on behalf of an institution or department (do you need a social media policy?) and how to keep your private life private.
• Make it fun but work related. ;-)

Barriers:• Even staff who work in technology areas
(databases, etc.) may have little experience or comfort with social media technologies.
• Provide training and instructions, as needed.
• Encourage!• • Some staff may not be comfortable with social
media - look for enthusiastic participants

Barriers:
• Privacy issues - separating personal from work related social media is critical. Create generic department/library accounts. Use Pages if for Facebook.
• Administration - need buy-in at all levels• Social media takes some work; keeping up with it can
be a challenge.
People who do not feel comfortable using social media often have privacy concerns.

Overcoming Barrierso Not all departments or libraries may be quite ready for social
media. It’s important to judge which social media works best.
o However... social media is not going anywhere any time. Social media can provide a more friendly face to the library and be in the user's space.
o If your institution or organization wants staff to participate in social media as part of your public voice, you need to encourage it at all levels.
o Develop and provide guidelines for appropriate social media. These do not have to be overly long or wordy.
o If you need to set up a review process, make sure it is part of the process. (and it shouldn’t take too long, either!)
Maximizing Your Social Media Presence: Tools and Tips to Save You Time and Effort
Provide an official channel for work related blogging, tweeting, youtubing, facebooking, whatever social media you want to use… …and on that note: be cohesive
and pick the social media that works best for your organization and focus on that.
Maximizing Your Social Media Presence: Tools and Tips to Save You Time and Effort
Social media on behalf of a department or organization:• Things to consider:• How will your organization be named in social media writing? • What is your brand and how is it represented?• Are there areas which are off-limits to discuss? • Are there particular areas to focus on? (events? Information bulletins?
)• Who will write content? What style? Should headlines appear in a
particular way?• What schedule?• Who will answer questions posted through social media?• What about copyright or legal issues?• Evaluation?
