SPRING 2010 SEASONAL CHANGE-OVERSPRING 2010 SEASONAL CHANGE-OVER

POLICY AND PROCESS

7

REGIONAL POLICYREGIONAL POLICY

• The transition from Heating to Cooling generally occurs between 15 April and 30 May based on weather.

• Heating will be secured when the extended forecast indicates warming trends of five consecutive days with the following limits:

– Berthing facilities: highs above 65˚ and lows above 55˚

– Admin facilities: highs above 60˚ and lows above 50˚

• Cooling will be started when interior space temperatures rise above 80˚ for 3 consecutive days, and no later than 4 weeks after securing heat (per COL3).

– Cooling indoor thermostat set point shall be maintained at 78˚

8

PROCEDUREPROCEDURE

• The Washington Navy Yard has two types of HVAC systems in its facilities, 2-pipe and 4-pipe

• Facilities with 2-pipe systems have either Heat or A/C

– Piping must be physically changed for Heat or A/C

– Because cooling systems are drained and freeze protected, A/C cannot be restarted once secured

• Facilities with 4-pipe systems have the availability of continuous Heat or A/C

• The guideline for temperature settings for cooling is 78˚ and for heating is 68 ˚
