Transfer into quarantine facility at the Kenya Wildlife Service in Nairobi

Gashuhe was illegally held in Kigali, Rwanda in a road-side garage, living in appalling conditions.

SCS offers an opportunity to improve the quality of orphans life that includes providing an environment that is as natural as possible

By providing refuge for confiscated chimps, SCS potentially contributes to reduce illegal poaching by stemming the supply to the illegal market

SCS encourages ecotourism by promoting positive, educational experience that supports conservation of wild habitats and minimising the illegal trade in bushmeat and live baby chimps OPC that incorporates SCS is the largest black rhino sanctuary in EA, thus has potential to promote national and international conservation policies that include conservation of chimps due to its high profile and recognition status

Presence of SCS also “acts” as an incentive to local authorities to enforce law since they have a refuge to care for the confiscated chimps
