DESCRIPTION
There is a much need for switch over to renewable energy in this present world. Wind energy is one of this from which we can generate more power as compared to other resources. This presentation tells you about its installed capacity in all over world and also tells about ways to utilize more wind power. new developments in this field are also presented.

Presentation On……
Wind Energy Utilization
ByGururaja Murthy.D
4th year Mechanical, SDMCET.
2
Abstract:
In this presentation we will be presenting the details of utilization of wind energy and its overview. This presentation highlights: how the wind energy is being utilized, the present state of usage of wind energy, how can we utilize more, new technologies…etc.
3
Introduction: Wind energy is a form of solar
energy produced by uneven heating of the Earth's surface.
Why…? - renewable energy. - clean & cheap energy. - long life.
4
In ancient times…..Pumping of waterProcessing of grains
Horizontal Axis, Chinese windmill for pumping water. Still used in some parts of china today [1]
The windmills that were used for processing of grins [2].

MEDIUM SCALE
• 40KW-1MW
• Village power/hybrid system
LARGE SCALE
• >1MW• Grid

Present scenario : Total installed capacity has
reached to 282.43 GW in which about 44.71GW is installed in the year 2012. [3]
In India, the total installed capacity has reached to 18.4GW out of which 2.3GW is added in 2012. [4]

How can we utilize it…..?
11
Ways to utilize more…..Small Wind Turbines (SWT).Wind - Solar Hybrid systems.Off-shore wind turbines.
12
Small Wind Turbines (SWT):Generally a wind turbine which is producing
a power in the range of 50W-40kW is called as small scale wind turbines.
WISE estimates India’s micro-generation potential at about 83 GW.[7]
Can be used for house hold & equipments such as parking meters, traffic warning signs, street lighting etc.
IEC 61400-12
13
Applications of SWT:Mounting of small wind turbines
on cell phone tower.Installation of SWT in boats.
14
SWT on cell phone towers[8]:1. Investment on separate tower is
eliminated.2. Can reduce diesel consumption
by 75%.
SWT installed in boats[8]:1. It will eliminate the carrying of
diesel.2. Helps them economically.
15
Wind – Solar Hybrid SystemsA cumulative capacity of 1647
kW of wind-solar hybrid systems has been installed so far in India.[9]
Can be used where there is both solar and wind rate are good.
16
New TechnologiesSaphonian Bladeless Wind
Turbines [10] : -Cp is greater than 59.3% - Efficiency is around 80% for the
same swept area.
17
New TechnologiesHighview’s LN₂ power storage
[11] : -It will make use of energy created during night time.
-The company claims that their system’s efficiency is as high as 70%
18
Conclusions :We can make more wind energy
utilization by using SWT.Efficiency of wind turbines can be
increased by using bladeless wind turbines.
By making use of LN2 we can reduce the waste of energy & can utilize more wind power.
We can increase the interest in wind energy sector by introducing some mandatory subsidies/policies in Union Budget.
