‘Vetter’s Letter
We are one month into summer and things are shifting into
high gear. Cruise nights are becoming more regular and fre-
quent. Car shows are seemingly every weekend. Auto-crosses
and drags are being held on the parking lots and tracks in our
immediate area. Unfortunately, the weather also shifts gears from 90-plus degree
days to intermittent thunderstorms. (Isn’t Pennsylvania a wonderful place to
live?)
I would be remiss if not mentioning the passing of a founding member of the
AACC -- Bob Gredlics. Corvettes were his life and we are all together today as a
club thanks to his efforts back in 1969. God be with you, Bob, and thanks for all
you did in making AACC what we are today.
While I was President, Bob was a strong advocate for getting out of our local area
to attend events. I’m sure he is happy to see the annual Mystery Trips and out-of
-state car shows we are now attending as a group. So, in Bob’s honor, be sure to
get out there and put some miles on your beloved Corvette, and risk getting a bug
or two (or even a little rain) on it, and experience all that summer 2013 has to
offer our lifestyle! Drive safely and Save the Wave!

Fri., June 14 — AACC sadly shares the passing of a founding member, Bob Gredlics. The following obituary appeared in
the Morning Call from June 18-19, 2013:
Robert (Bob) Gredlics, 68, of Bokeelia, FL and New Tripoli, PA, for-
merly of Allentown, died on June 14, 2013, at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral,
FL after being diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare,
fast-moving and untreatable brain disease. He was born and raised in
Bethlehem, PA, the son of the late Charles and Rose (Rum) Gredlics. Bob
was an accountant for Lehigh Valley/Conrail/Norfolk Southern for over
30 years before retiring. He and his first wife of 33 years, Marilyn,
owned and operated Vette Finders, a business that located Corvettes.
Bob was a founder and lifetime member of the Allentown Corvette Club,
where he served as president and vice-president for several terms. He
was a member of the National Corvette Restorers Society, the Solid Axle
Corvette Club, NCCC, the Antique Auto Club of America and Pine Island Moose
Lodge #1954. Bob spent winters on Pine Island, FL and summers in Pennsylvania,
where he and his newlywed enjoyed car shows, road trips, kayaking, water aerobics, playing cards and time with family
and friends. Bob was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, who will be remembered for his feisty person-
ality and as a dedicated V T Hokie & Corvette fanatic. He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn (Freudenberger).
Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Kurtas) and will lovingly be remembered by his daughters, Melissa A.
(Jonathan) McCaverty of El Segundo, CA and Michelle L. (Jason) Kovac of Blacksburg, VA; his grandchildren, Marilyn,
Ryan and Tyler; and his sister, Betty Ann (the late Cornelius) Enright, Jr. of Bethlehem.
Services: A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Contributions: In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort
Myers, FL 33908 (www.hopehcs.org) or the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center, Case Western Re-
serve University (www.cjdsurveillance.com/donation).

Liberty Region Corvette Show John Denning (‘76, ‘07) Sat., June 1 — Four from AACC participated in Liberty Region’s first 2013 Corvette show
held in Newtown, PA. Our club members braved the heat, tasted the food, cooled off
with the $2 beers and everyone won trophies.
TCV Summer Bash Len Feinberg (‘13) Sun., June 2 — A good sized group from both clubs (AACC and EACC) met at the Park & Ride and headed up to the Tri-
County Corvette Club's Summer Bash in Brodheadsville (PA). It was another beautiful day with just a few sprinkles late
in the afternoon. There seemed to be more pollen on the cars than rain. TCV’s event had a good range of cars from an
early Ford to 2013 Corvettes. One couple showed up on a small-block Chevy-powered trike painted to honor Ground
Zero and the Twin Towers. The show raised money for 7-year-old Joseph Fantozzi, who is fighting leukemia. He had the
honor of pulling tricky-tray winners, presenting his choice of Best of Show, and giving Gary Warmkessel the cash enve-
lope as the 50/50 winner.

SBCC Vettes for Vets Len Feinberg (‘13) Sun., June 9 — Ten Corvettes and one Mini Cooper S met at the Park & Ride before heading north to the Slate Belt Cor-
vette Club's Vettes for Vets Show. The weather was great and the show benefited a great cause — Operation Touch of
Home. There were over 220 cars, trucks, and motorcycles, which was likely a record turnout. The Blue Valley Farm Show
complex is nice place for the show, as you park on the grass which keeps the heat down. Quite a few vendors were on-
site selling everything including old car parts, craft items, jewelry, ceramics, and even homemade jam. There was also a
tricky tray and 50/50 to keep folks engaged.

Meguiar’s Clinic Len Feinberg (‘13) Sat., June 15 — A nice group of members of both clubs converged at Faulkner Chevy’s new dealership for the
Meguiar’s Wax Clinic put on by Phil and Val of First Place Auto. It was a very interesting and informative afternoon. It
was also a hands-on clinic as members got to try clay barring and buffing for the first time (on someone else's car, ra-
ther than their Corvette). Phil had handouts and there was a drawing for a Meguiar's Detail Bag that was won by Barry
Opitz (EACC). Before leaving, many took the opportunity to stock up on detailing supplies with everything from car
wash to buffers.
Father’s Day on the Mountain Sun., June 16 — Club members brought their fathers, children and families to
celebrate Father's Day at Blue Mountain (Palmerton, PA). The Summit Lounge
was the center of activities for their 2013 Father’s Fest, which featured something
for every dad and his family to enjoy like food, beer, hunting and fishing infor-
mation, archery and guns, and motorcycles and ATVs, not to mention attractions
including live music, games and amusements.
The parking fee was waived for attending Corvettes, who were treated to special parking near the lodge.
A special thanks for Gary & Joann Warmkessel for introducing AACC to their daughter, who was the organizer for this
inaugural event.

Cavalcade of Corvettes Len Feinberg (‘13) Sun., June 23 — It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood and that neighborhood was Jamison, PA, at the Middle
Bucks Institute of Technology. Two different groups headed south to Jamison — the breakfast group came from the
Hellertown Diner, while the rest left from the traditional Park & Ride. The Corvette Club of the Delaware Valley has a
great location for their show with parking on the grass, which keeps things relatively cooler for the participants. They
have two shows going at the same time — Corvettes in one grass field and everything else in another field. They also
have separate trophies for each group. There were some interesting cars in the non-Corvette group, including a great
red metallic Studebaker Grand Turismo Hawk and Lincoln Premier. Since Doc Bressler was the MC, you got a free tooth-
brush in your registration pack. A tricky-tray, 50/50, trivia contest, various vendors, and a good variety of food gave the
participants something to do throughout the day. A rather large amount of spectators were also coming and going dur-
ing the day.

Corvette Racing to Test C7.R Soon Chris Demorro, www.CorvetteOnline.com Wed., June 26 — The Corvette Racing Team’s C6.R went out not with a bang, but a whimper at the 81st running of the
24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. The team’s two Corvettes finished in fourth and seventh place in their classes,
failing to make the podium in the swan song for the last-generation Corvette. While they’ve seen success elsewhere
this season, Corvette Racing had a hard time keeping up with the more modern competition.
No wonder that testing of a race-bred Corvette C7.R will begin in July and,
according to GM Authority’s well-placed sources, the new “aggressive”
design will make the C6 look “dated.” We hate to seem rude, but it’s out
with the old and in with the new. ...Details on the race-prepped Corvette
C7.R remain under wraps, though we can rather safely assume that the all-
new LT1 engine will replace the LSx-based motors the C6.R currently runs.
We’re also expecting a low-slung, uber-aggressive look for the Corvette
C7.R, one that replaces the soft curves of the C6 with sharp, hard edges.
We can’t wait to see what a race car Corvette C7 looks like, and the rendering from Jon Sibal may give us some idea of
what we might expect.
Alas, the new Corvette C7.R won’t make its debut until the beginning of the 2014 racing season. Until then, we’ll have
to hope for some well-placed spy pics or leaked internal photos of the transformation the Corvette C7.R will undergo.

ZORA-1 Corvette Donated to NCM
Jun 13 | If you are a Corvette fan, chances are you’ve seen a beautiful photo-
graph of Zora Arkus-Duntov standing next to a red 1984 Corvette at the foot of
Mount Rushmore. You can’t help but feel a rush of American pride seeing two of
our Founding Fathers in the same picture as someone who lived the American
dream so well - Zora, the immigrant who was the Father of Corvette.
The Corvette in that picture is known as “ ZORA-1” and has been donated to the National Corvette Museum by Francis
Mariano. It was originally ordered in 1983 by a Chevrolet dealership in Fargo, N.D. specifically to be driven by Zora him-
self during the Black Hills Corvette Classic that year. Zora drove it accompanied by his wife Elfi. His successor as Chief
Engineer, Dave McClellan, also used the car to lead the caravan and both engineers signed it to commemorate those
events.
Special license plates were issued for the car by South Dakota Governor Bill Janklow, who was a Corvette enthusiast
and great supporter of the Black Hills Corvette Classic, officially giving it the name “Zora.” Thank you to Mr. Mariano for
your donation, and allowing all of us to enjoy this Corvette that is a tribute to its namesake.
NCM Motorsports Park: Be Part of the Project
Jun 28 | The National Corvette Museum broke ground to build a new "world class"
motorsports park. The Park will be located on approximately 184 acres of land with
1.5 miles of frontage on I-65 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, directly across the inter-
state from the Museum. Check out more about the park design, timeline, and see how you can become a part of the
project online at www.motorsportspark.org.
The park will feature a 3.15-mile road course (4 configurations), autocross/skid pad area, paddock, control tower / ad-
ministrative area, commercial business park, and classrooms. The Corvette Racing / Pratt & Miller Team contributed to
the layout of the track and will include features from some of their favorite and most challenging tracks including the
Le Mans circuit Mulsanne straight and turn combo (straight is not full length) and Porsche curves. Total estimated pro-
ject costs are $16,475,000. To date, NCM spent nearly $3,000,000.

L.V. Wine-Art-Music Festival Display Kevin Minnich (‘00)
Page 18 Allentown Area Corvette Club ‘Vetter’s Letter | Vol. 20, Iss. 7 | July 2013
Sat., Aug. 3 – This event was initially discussed at the May 22nd meeting. Although it didn’t seem like there was enough
interest, the event organizer would still like to have a Corvette display. (He would prefer to have a variety from the
generations.)
Details: Schnecksville Fairgrounds. 11am-5pm.
(Must be on grounds for whole event.) Rain-or-shine.
Free admission. $5 wine tasting fee.
The event organizer, Upstate Wine Country, hosts similar events throughout the northeastern states; this is their first
event in this area and could be a nice opportunity to get involved on the ground floor. Visit
www.UpstateWineCountry.com to get an idea of their events and for more information.
Display cars are being given a nice incentive (free admission and $5 tasting) as the walk-in price is $25 for admission
and wine tasting (or $5 for designated drivers).
I would like to prepare a custom display board for your car as part of this display. Please contact me (610-530-0923,
keminnich@verizon.net) if you are able to participate. Joining the Minnichs so far are: Bruce & Sharon Carney, Joel
Dean, Tom & Gloria Aird, and Dave & Linda Shanaberger.
Think About It This year, GM introduced the 2014 Corvette C7 — a stunning
machine with the aesthetic impact and performance prowess worthy
of the Stingray emblem. And now, Fisher-Price® Power Wheels®
brings a version of this highly acclaimed car down to size for kids.
It’s got all the styling of the real Corvette C7. Plus, it’s the fastest
Power Wheels® vehicle in the line, reaching speeds up to 6 mph!
Features which will excite our next generation of Corvette enthusi-
asts include: styling just like the new Corvette C7; at 6 mph
(forward), it’s the fastest “car” in the line; it has two speeds: 6 and 3
mph forward, and 3 mph reverse; shiny “chrome” wheels; single seat;
drives on hard surfaces and grass; includes 12-volt battery and charger, with a long-lasting battery charge; and it has
Power Lock® brakes.
The Power Wheels® Corvette Stingray rolls into stores nationwide September 2013. Excited drivers can pre-order the
Power Wheels® Corvette on Walmart.com starting in July. Expected price is $275.
