a spectacular 70 degrees. Everything is in place for a successful show. Please re‐

ryone there. Above all, no matter what you do, have fun and enjoy one of AACC's

biggest events of the year!

Springfest kicks off the month’s activities. AACC will tour County Corvette, experi‐

ence history at Cornwall Iron Furnace, support the car show at Faulkner Chevy‐

Cadillac (our sponsor), and participate in the Bethlehem Memorial Day Parade.

There’s a little for everyone to enjoy and I hope to see you at these events.

Sat., Mar. 31 | A nice‐sized representation of the AACC descended upon downtown

Easton to view the show “One Night in Memphis” at the State Theatre. Several members

had never before been to the historic landmark. We reminisced through the stories and

songs of the eras as well as enjoyed each other’s company. Half of the group extended the

evening by frequenting one of Easton’s local establishments to relax a bit longer. It was a delightful evening.

Sat., Apr. 07 | Valerie Ferguson led a group of hearty AACC members who met

at Riverview Park in Easton on the crisp Saturday morning to walk the Two Riv‐

ers Trailway. They walked and talked as they took in the sights and sounds of

the old canal trail along the Lehigh River. Surprisingly, the group walked a total

of five miles without stopping at a restaurant to eat! The energetic group is

hoping to do it again sometime soon.

Sun., Apr. 22 | Mike Cutro invited over 50 members to

join he and Cindy for the American Harvest Buffet at The

Stroudsmoor Country Inn (Stroudsburg, PA). Before every‐

one sat down to eat, we first arranged the attending cars

for a group photo. Then we converged upon the bar. Then

we ate...way too much! It surely was an excellent buffet

Sat., Apr. 28 | Marty Hegyi came out of retirement and used his presentation

skills to educate this year’s Springfest judges on technique and criteria. The

clinic was open to both our show judges and anyone else interested in learn‐

ing how judging is performed or how to better prepare their own car.

Thanks to Sandi Kirby and the Faulkner Chevy‐Cadillac

team for permitting us use of their service bays for the

workshop.

Recap: Adam’s Polishes Detailing Clinic Sun., Apr. 29 | Our fine friends at Jack Williams Tire (Whitehall) opened their doors to share the

world of Adam’s Polishes. The free session offered detailing tips to some of the areas most

enthusiastic car owners. Door prizes were awarded and discounts were offered.

Visit County Corvette Chairs: Jeanette & Scott Marakovits (‘13) Sat., May 12 | Since 1986, County Corvette has been providing the highest quality services and products available to

classic, muscle and performance car enthusiasts. Along with a facility tour at 325 Westtown Road, West Chester, PA,

Sun., May 06 | AACC’s Springfest Corvette show is finally here and it’s time to bring your little

beauty out for all to see! Get parked, then pitch in to help the Iervolinos make the day a huge

success. This is our club’s first show of the year and attracts many out‐of‐state participants.

Cornwall Iron Furnace Chair: Bobbie Paul (‘06) Thu., May 17 | Visit the oldest surviving, unchanged cold‐blast furnace in the

western hemisphere followed by lunch at the historic Blue Bird Inn. Cost for the

guided walking tour (2.5 hours with many steps) is $7/pp. Lunch prices are $9‐14.

The group departs from Cracker Barrel (Fogelsville, PA) at 9am.

Memorial Day Parade Chairs: Laura Hegyi (‘07, ‘17) and Valerie Ferguson (‘17) Mon., May 28 | The Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council and the cities of Allentown

and Bethlehem are again sponsoring the Bethlehem Memorial Day Parade. AACC was

invited as a club to participate in this parade. Lineup begins at 8:30am in front of

Liberty High School (1115 Linden St., Bethlehem, PA 18018). The parade goes from

the school to Memorial Park for a brief ceremony. Parade vehicles are encouraged to

arrive early because spectators will also be parking at the high school. Parade person‐

nel will direct the cars where to stage.

After the ceremony, Valerie Ferguson will lead those interested to visiting the outdoor memorials at the homes of two

fallen soldiers in the nearby area. Contact Valerie for more information ([email protected]).

Showing Off at Our Sponsor Sat., May 19 | AACC again partners with Faulkner Chevy‐Cadillac for their 7th Annual Car

Show. The event will run from 9am‐2pm, is open to ALL vehicles, and is free to attend! Registration 9‐11am. Food is

available for purchase from a local Boy Scout troop. Register online through the banner ad on Faulkner’s website or go

To do our part, AACC needs volunteers to help with setup, registration, parking and tear‐down.

AACC’s 2018 Club Trip Mon.‐Sun., Jun. 18‐24 | AACC’s 2018 trip is not a mystery — we head

to Indianapolis for Bloomington Gold. An interest sheet is available

now. Besides the Bloomington event, our itinerary includes visits to

Fallingwater, National Museum of the US Air Force, and free time in

Indianapolis. 11 cars are already registered. If you want to join, be sure to register online with Bloomington for their

“Gold Package.” Approx. total cost for the trip is $2,300/couple and $1,800/single. You will put around 1,300 miles on

the odometer during this trip.

Highmark Walk-A-Thon Chair: Ike Eisenhart (‘66, ‘11) Sat., Jun. 02 | Step out for the 2018 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community and the Meals on

Wheels walkers. Every dollar raised by walkers is used to subsidize meals for low‐income clients. This is

a great family‐ and dog‐friendly fun walk with healthy treats and entertainment, all for a great cause.

Everyone who walks with Meals on Wheels receives a Meals on Wheels tee‐shirt and if you raise $30 or more, you also

Putt U Night Chair: Gary George (‘93, ’10) Thu., Jun. 07 | All members are invited to participate in this club‐paid event. Family and friends are

welcome; however, non‐club members will be charged $5 per game. (Pay at the event.)

Putt U features two world‐class 18‐hole miniature golf courses, unlike anything you've played before.

The holes are long and winding, and will offer a challenge to both kids and adults.

The event begins at 7pm and is weather‐dependent. An email will be sent by 5pm the day of the event if canceled.

Family Day Display Chair: Marianne Mosher (‘02) Sun., Jun. 10 | AACC is invited to bring up to 20 Corvettes to the 10th Annual Naval Reserve

Center Family Day. Registration is free, two People’s Choice awards will be given, and a compli‐

mentary lunch will be provided. Participation is limited to club members (and potential mem‐

bers) only — sign up at a club meeting.

The event is held at East Allen Twsp. Bicentennial Park (East Pavilion C, 5450 Liberto Lane, Bethlehem, PA 18017) and

runs from 11am—3pm. (Arrival and clean‐up is 10:30‐10:45am.)

Proposed By-Laws Change Over the past months, your AACC Board of Directors has been reviewing the club budget. They felt that a change to

annual membership dues was necessary. The key driver is AACC’s increasing operating expenses, and specifically, the

meeting venue rental fees. Details on the proposed amendments and the Board’s rationale for suggesting the changes

appear below.

Discussion related to these proposals will occur at the May regular club meetings, after which a vote will be called (on

May 23rd). Official ballots will be mailed to each Primary, Spouse, and Lifetime member following the early May meet‐

ing. YOU MUST BRING THE BALLOT TO THE MAY 23rd MEETING to cast your vote in person. (Mail‐in or absentee bal‐

lots are not accepted.) A minimum of 59 members (or one quarter of the active membership) must be present at this

meeting in order for the vote to be taken. Amendments will be adopted by a 2/3 majority vote of all ballots cast. This

may be a tedious administrative process that most do not enjoy, but it is important to take part as a club member.

Pin Me! Chair: Barry Dorshimer (’00) Now is your chance to get a custom AACC hat pin. Barry worked with a pin manufacturer to make

a post‐back pin with our AACC logo. The cost is only $3.50 each for a minimum order of 100 pins.

Our color oval logo is 1‐1/4” x 1” overall on polished silver with a smooth domed top.

Indicate how many pins you want on the interest sheet at a meeting. Monies will be collected be‐

Stock 2019 ZR1 Hits 190 MPH by Harrison Noble (CorvetteOnline.com) Tue., Apr. 10 | Make a list of production cars that can hit

more than 190 mph in a standing mile, let alone their top

speed. Now shorten that list by price – say – under half a mil‐

lion dollars, and where does that leave you? Probably with a

very short list, but at least you’ll know that the 2019 Chevrolet

Corvette ZR1 can do it for arguably half the price of most ex‐

otic cars on the market today.

But that has always been one of the Corvette’s greatest attributes, hasn’t it? Besting cars which are more than twice

the price in domestic‐fashion is the name of its game, and the 2019 Corvette ZR1 does it well. [At the Texas Mile], we

[had] the privilege of watching a bone‐stock (with the exception of its factory carbon fiber rear wing removed) 2019

ZR1 hit more than 190 mph in the standing mile.

Certainly, the Corvette’s favorable aerodynamics play a large role in its standing‐mile accomplishment, but having a

supercharged 6.2‐liter V8, good for more than 755 horsepower and 715 lb‐ft of torque[,] under its hood doesn’t hurt

either. Coupled with a seven‐speed manual transmission – or an optional eight‐speed automatic transmission – allows

the Corvette ZR1 to reach a top speed of more than 212 mph.

Boasting more than 755 horsepower, and a 200‐plus mph top speed, is [sic] just a few of many reasons why the 2019

Corvette ZR1 impresses us; but what we like most about its prowess is its versatility. The ZR1 wasn’t designed to just hit

a certain top speed, run a certain quarter‐mile e.t. or accelerate to [sic] 0‐60 in a particular time; it was designed to do

all of that, and much more.

Craig Jackson’s Personal C4 for Charity by Andy Bolig (CorvetteOnline.com) Tue., Apr. 10 | While arguably a mechanic’s worst nightmare, this snowflake‐white dipped C4 could become a dream

come true for more than one individual. But let’s talk about the car for a second.

This particular car is of course a 1988 35th Anniversary Edition (RPO Z01). RPO Z01 was a limited‐production (2,050

built) 35th Anniversary Special Edition Package and was available as a coupe only. It is unmistakable with its white inte‐

rior and exterior treatment. The white door panels and white steering wheel were constant struggles with many tech‐

nicians and DIY enthusiasts. We have even spoken with [the] owner’s [sic] who found their dog chewing on that special

steering wheel!

The Z01 option consisted of white leather sport seats, power driver and passenger seats, a blue‐tinted lift‐off roof

panel, electronic air conditioning, an illuminated driver visor mirror, Delco‐Bose stereo, rear window and side window

defroster, and the Sport Handling Package. The Sport Handling Pack‐

age (RPO Z51) features [sic] a radiator boost fan, Delco‐Bilstein shocks,

an engine oil cooler, heavy‐duty radiator, a faster overall steering ra‐

tio, and larger aluminum wheels with Goodyear Eagle tires.

Of course, the 5.7L L98 engine is still there, ready to rev vigorously up to around 5,200 rpm. The car is equipped with

the 700r4 overdrive automatic transmission and the Z01’s specific serial number, #1989, which is interestingly, only

one digit off from the car’s year of manufacture.

This particular car was gifted to Craig Jackson and his mother Nellie Jackson on the auction block at the 2006 Scottsdale

Auction by longtime Barrett‐Jackson customer and Corvette enthusiast Dave Ressler. Dave passed away recently, and

the sale of this vehicle will honor his memory.

One‐hundred percent of the hammer price of this anniversary edition Corvette will benefit the American Heart Associa‐

tion. This is in accordance with Barrett‐Jackson’s year‐long “Driven Hearts” charitable initiative for the AHA. So, with

the sale of this special Corvette, not only will the new owner get a clean example of possibly the cleanest Corvette edi‐

tion Chevrolet has ever produced, but the funds from the sale will help the American Heart Association continue work‐

ing to cure heart disease for all who follow. The car is scheduled to cross the auction block at approximately 5:30 PM

on Saturday, April 14th, 2018.

Corvette Racing Tops at Long Beach by Andy Bolig (CorvetteOnline.com) Mon., Apr. 16 | For the 20th year in a row, Corvette Racing has been taking on all competitors in North American [sic]

and around the globe and the wins continue to add up. Photographer Richard Prince posted on Facebook, “It’s been an

incredible journey thus far – 263,074 race miles completed, 106 victories worldwide – 98 in North America and 8 in the

24 Hours of Le Mans, 12 Manufacturer and Team Championships, and 11 Driver Championships.”

The Corvette Racing team is not immune to adversity. “This team just does not give up,” said Jim Campbell, Chevrolet

U.S. Vice President, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. There have been struggles both mechanical and sanc‐

tioned via IMSA’s Balance of Performance.

The team continues to evolve to meet the challege [sic] and if their latest finish at this past weekend’s Bubba Burger

Sports Car Grand Prix of Long Beach is any indicator, they had a winning combination of experience, determination and



2019 ZR1 to Pace Indy 500 by Andy Bolig (CorvetteOnline.com) Thu., Apr. 19 | Corvette has found itself at the head of the pack again as the Official [P]ace [C]ar for the 2018 Indian‐

apolis 500 and will lead drivers to the green flag on Sunday, May 27, for the 102nd running of the legendary race.

This is the 15th time that a Corvette has served

as the official Pace Car since 1978, when black

and silver sharks found themselves leading the

pack for the first time. The first Chevrolet to

lead the group occurred in 1948, when a ’48

Fleetmaster Six convertible paced the race. No

other vehicle has served as the Pace Car more (Continued on page 12)

luck. The win at Long Beach was the 107th all‐time class victory for Corvette Racing

and the first of its 20th season of competition.

Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner raced their way to back‐to‐back

victories in southern California by claiming the win for the second year in a row in

their No. 4 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. This was also Gavin’s 50th win

with Corvette Racing – the most of any driver in program history. He now has five

victories at Long Beach…three of them with his co‐driver, Tommy Milner.

Gavin started the race fifth and drove the first 40 minutes before handing off to

Milner during a full‐course caution period. The No. 4 Corvette then leap‐frogged the

No. 66 Ford in the pitlane and Milner went from third to second with 37 minutes

left[,] and took the lead for good 15 minutes later. The racing was extreme to the very end. Tommy Milner explains

how fine the line between winning and placing can be, “I almost threw it away on the last corner, last lap.” When all

was said and done, the car, driver and Michelin tires held on and the margin of win was a mere 2.157 seconds!

Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen finished fourth in the No. 3 Mobil 1/SiriusXM Chevrolet Corvette C7.R. Magnussen

started fourth, and moved to third on the opening lap. The No. 3 Corvette C7.R suffered mechanical woes after being

turned over to co‐driver Antonio Garcia. The car wouldn’t go into gear after the re‐start, but once Antonio got under

way, he went from eighth to fourth in the span of 36 minutes. He ended less than two seconds from a podium position.

The next race will be at the Mid‐Ohio Sports Car Course on May 4‐6.

Pacers Collection at Mecum Indy by Andy Bolig (CorvetteOnline.com) Thu., Apr. 26 | Enthusiasts of both the Corvette and the Indianapolis 500 race will have an opportunity to fill any re‐

maining gaps in their collections as Mecum Auctions will be offering the most complete collection of Corvette Indy

Pace Cars in the world. As part of the Keith Busse Corvette Pace Car Collection, the cars will cross the auction block dur‐

ing Mecum’s Indy event, held on May 15‐20th.

Corvette has paced the famous race a record 14 times since the first Corvette led the competitors back in 1978. Busse’s

Pace Car Collection includes examples of the 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017 cars. Pace car editions from those four years

were never offered for sale to the public.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Chevrolet gave Busse special authorization to duplicate the pace cars from those

years using the officially licensed paint schemes and pace car graphics. The official Indianapolis 500 graphics were sent

directly from the decal manufacturer to Fort Wayne, where they were applied to the cars at Tom Kelley Chevrolet be‐

fore Busse took delivery.



Busse Pace Cars Continued...

Another reason the Busse collection is known as the “world’s largest” is due to having a trio of special 2004 Indy cars.

Because similarly, a Pace Car Edition was never offered to the public in 2004, the Official Pace Car qualifies as one of

the rarest of the breed.

After the 2004 race, the car was turned over to the GM Heritage Collection, where it remained until 2008. It then be‐

came part of the Bob McDorman Collection before being purchased by the Keith Busse Collection in 2010. The 2004

Indianapolis 500 Festival Car was gifted to Buddy Rice for winning the Indianapolis 500 race and the remaining special

Corvette is Track Car No. 22, which was one of the vehicles used as an official parade‐lap vehicle.

The collection will first be offered together as one complete set, however, if an acceptable offer of purchase is not

achieved, each car will then be offered individually without reserve. Additionally, two tickets to the 102nd running of

the Indianapolis 500 Race on May 27, 2018, will also be included with each car. Allowing purchasers of each of these

cars to witness Corvette pacing the famous race for a record‐setting 15th time.

The '04 Pace Car is 1 of 3 Official Track‐Driven Pace Cars for the 2004 Indianapolis 500. As such, it does have all the strobe lights intact. The white 2004 Indianapolis 500 Festival Car was gifted to Buddy Rice for winning the Indianapolis 500 race and the blue Pace Car is Track Car No. 22, used as an official parade‐lap vehicle.

The Last of the C3s Apr. 12 | The 3rd generation of the Corvette is the longest running genera‐

tion to date, spanning 15 full years of production. The first production year of

the 3rd generation, or C3 Corvette[,] introduced many new features along with

its new body style.

While the 1980‐1982 Corvettes are met with criticism at times due to the significant drop in power from 1968, they are

Corvettes through and through. They are a survivor of the times. Some of the major muscle/sports cars of the 1960s,

didn’t make it through the 1970s, but the Corvette did. That toughness is what makes this Corvette such an icon.

NCM News & Events Continued... Moore Mondays Apr. 19 | While not everyone has the opportunity to plan a regular visit to the mecca of Corvette,

stories behind the iconic sports car can be delivered to the masses, and enjoyed from the comfort of one’s home. In

March, the National Corvette Museum began offering a series of live videos on Facebook, taking viewers behind the

scenes to view vehicles and artifacts not currently on display, as well as offering stories about Corvette and other cars.

Museum Curator Derek Moore leads the weekly series, appropriately titled Moore Mondays, and the short videos

leave viewers wanting more.
