HOW? Through seamless career & academic plans

ICAP = Real Opportunities

What is it all really?The ICAP, or Academic Plan of Study is a

process that students participate in, which results in an actual plan.Process:

Developmentally appropriate grade level

required and recommended activities

Plan:1.Student’s career cluster or pathway goal2.Relevancy of student’s goal to post secondary institution / workforce or other future option3.Student’s four-year high school plan (some use 6-year), including courses, extracurricular & CE options

Utilizing: Aligned content standards of ASCA National Model & CTE, core curriculums, CDE, existing, available “village” and college, career & academic planning tools and resources

PATHWAYS DELIVERY

• 35 Minutes Every Day• Every Student• Computer Lab Time• Counselor Visits• Business and Industry Visits• Curriculum Delivery• Student Internships/Teacher Externships• Teacher Continuing Education Classes• Intervention/Pride Pass• Begin to implement at Middle School and Elementary School

IMPLEMENTATION PHASE1. Design a daily Career Pathways Master Schedule:

Community Presenters, Grade Checks, Tutoring, Incentives, and Plans of Study

2. Determine Student Accountability for Career Pathways:

Grades, Daily Attendance, Plan of Study completion by Senior year

3. Determine Advisor Accountability for Career Pathways:

Curriculum Delivery, Student Plans of Study, and Teacher Evaluations.

4. Determine School Counselor support assignments:

General Counseling and Guidance, Letters of Recommendation, Academic & Career Counseling, Pathways Classroom visits, Credit and Grade Checks.

5. Conduct Teacher In-service Training to include:

College in Colorado, Plans of Study presentation from Colorado Community College System Representative, and daily schedule components.

Career Guidance and College In Colorado Training for ALL Staff

Utilize your “Village”The Experts:

• You + the Administrator, the school leader• Professional School Counselors: ASCA model, Career Development

• CTE instructors/directors: Plans of Study

• SpEd/Transition Coordinators: IEP’s (Individual Education Plans)

• IT Specialists: Data sharing, SIS pro’s

• Academic Core/AVID/IB/Elective instructors: time, relevance and relationship

• May we suggest: student(s), librarian, school board, PS rep, workforce rep, parent(s), business & industry rep, BOCES and any others?

What does it look like?

•Elaborating on Plans of Study

• Addition of Freshman Seminar

•Altering School Day Schedule: adding 30 minute advisory classes

•Integrating career planning into all class curriculums

•Training all staff, students and parents on career/college planning tools specifically: CiC

•Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s): Early release weekly for students.

•Bring in Alumni as guest speakers – proof that Career and Academic Planning works!
