CallforAbstracts:OralandPosterPresentations

Excitementisbuildingforthebi‐annualPalliativeCareConferencehostedinThunderBay,OntariobytheCentreforEducationandResearchonAgingandHealth(CERAH),November3‐5th,2010.Thethemeofthisyear’sconferenceisPassporttoPalliativeCare:JourneysandDestinations.Theconferenceisdesignedtoengageindividualsinvolvedinallaspectsofcare,including:Nurses,Administrators,Physicians,BereavementCounsellors,SocialWorkers,BoardMembers,CaseManagers,Chaplains,Educators,HomeCareProviders,SpiritualCareDirectors,VolunteerCoordinators,Volunteersandotherhealthcareprofessionalswithaninterestinpalliativecare.Wewillcontinuetoaddandupdatetheconferenceinformationsobesuretovisittheofficialwebsiteathttp://cerah.lakeheadu.ca/palliativecare/TheConferencePlanningCommitteeinvitesyoutosubmitanabstractforanOralPaperorPosterPresentationintheareasofClinicalPractice(psych/social),Research,and/orEducation.

OralPaperPresentations:Oralpresentationsarepractice/researchoutcomesbasedpresentations.Paperpresentationswillbeatotalof60‐90minutesinlengthwhichincludesupto20minutesofdiscussion.

Posters:Posterswillbedisplayedthroughouttheconference.Authorswillbeexpectedtobepresentattheirpostersduringdesignatedtimesforposterjudging.Detailswillbeconfirmedoncepostershavebeenaccepted.

AllapplicantswillbenotifiedoftheacceptanceorrejectionoftheirabstractbyJune18,2010.Allfirstauthorsoforalandposterpresentationswillbeexpectedtoregisterfortheconferenceandpayallapplicablefeesbythedeadline.

AbstractReviewandSelection

AllsubmissionswillhavenamesandotheridentifyinginformationremovedbeforeevaluationbyanAbstractReviewCommittee.Eachabstractwillbereviewedbyaminimumoftworeviewers,andwillbeacceptedbasedonthefollowingcriteria:

• Relevanceoftopictopalliativecareandcontributestothethemeoftheconference• Presentsbestpracticesolutionstocurrentissuesinpalliativecare• Evidence‐based,innovativepalliativecareresearch• Demonstratescommunity‐basedoutcomes• Abstractiswellwritten/clearlycommunicated

InstructionsforAbstractSubmission

1. Abstractsmustbesubmittedonline.Incompleteabstractformswillnotbeconsidered.Emailandfacsimilesubmissionswillnotbeconsidered.

2. Oncesubmitted,abstracttextmustbeinitsfinalformasnofurtherchangesarepossible.3. Abstractsmustbeclearandconcise,outliningthecontentofthepresentation.4. Theabstractshouldbenomorethan250wordsandbewritteninEnglish.

a. Useaconcisetitle,includingkeywords,typedinboldfaceCAPITALLETTERS.b. Listauthor(s)names,degrees,organizationalaffiliations,city,province/state,and

countryasbrieflyaspossible.c. Usestandardabbreviations.

5. Oralpresentationswillbenomorethan90minutesinlengthincluding20minutesfordiscussion.Ifanoralpresentationabstractisnotaccepted,theopportunitytopresentapostermaybeoffered.

6. Postersshouldbedesignedtofita3’highby5’wideposterboardsurface.7. Allabstractpresenters(oralandposter)mustregisterfortheconferenceuponpresentation

acceptance.8. Amaximumoftwopapersandpostersmaybesubmittedbyeachfirstauthor(youmaybethe

second,thirdauthoronsubsequentsubmissions).9. Oralpaperpresentersmayprovidehandouts.Theconferencewillnotprovidecopyorprint

services.10. Allpresentationmaterials(PowerPointslides,DVDvideofiles,etc.)mustbesubmittedby

emailnolaterthanOctober20,2010.11. Allfurthercriteriaconcerningoralpapers,postersandworkshopswillbesenttoyouuponthe

acceptanceofyourabstract.
