Article abstractThis re-reading of the work of Maurice Habwachs sets out to examine the studyof social memory as a contribution of note to social morphology both from thepoint of view of defining problems and that of proposed solutions. MauriceHalbwachs' sociology of memory is a sociology of social experience. First, theauthor proposes that this sociology constitutes a theory of socializationrevealing the means of social appropriation of human experience throughorganizing and defining relationships among collective memories. Then theseextensions are explored. This model of socialization, based on the study of themultiplicity of memories and the social rules by which they are formed, opensup a field of research dealing with the forms of social intelligence that make uptoday's complex existence, an existence that finds its place through and inexperienced memories. To back up this point of view on Maurice Halbwachs'sociology of memory, a parallelism is set up between his work and that of J.Piaget in which it is noted that the activity of memory merges with that ofhuman intelligence.
