My Sort-of American
Dream
My Sort-of American
DreamBy Leah S.By Leah S.

Making Money
Here’s your typical American Dream....
And here’s my....American Dream...In Italy.
PD-1923
My dream is to spend at least a year or two, maybe more, living in
Italy and touring the country.
And here’s how I’ll get there.....
Step 1: Language and
Culture
I will continue to study Italian language and culture throughout high-school and
college.
Ciao!Ciao!!!!!
Step 2: Get a job and start saving money.
This summer I will start saving money from my summer job. I’ll continue through college with whatever job I have in college.
Step 3: Go to college and get a degree.
Next I’ll work hard in college and graduate with a degree in some
undecided thing so I can get a job.
Yes, I’m now Condoleezza Rice
Step 4: Get a real job and earn a real amount of
money.
After college I will get a real job (hopefully) and continue to save money for a round trip flight to Italy, travel expenses, as well as the things I will
need to take with me.
Theoretically, I will have met someone or know someone who would be willing to go with me to Italy (I mean who wouldn’t want to go to Italy?). I will also
need a map so I won’t get lost and the guide so I don’t get bored on the plane.
Step 5: Find someone to go with me to Italy and buy a guide book to the country
before I go to the air-port so I’ll have something to read
on the plane.
Step 6: Italy
Step six is where I spend all of my time touring the
country and going to cheese and wine tastings and having an all around great
time.
Step 7: Reality
In step 7, I will eventually run out of money and be unable to get enough work in Italy so I will return to reality in the United States where people speak my
language and serve lower quality food. Usually. I will get a job, possibly go back to the one I had before Italy, and have a family and eventually take any kids I might have to Italy and show them all my favorite places. In a weird way, I will eventually fulfill something a lot closer
to the usual American Dream than one might think.
