Evaluating Music Video portfolio

Research and Planning

Page 2: evaluating music video portfolio

Outline how you developed the concept

• I have researched into digipack and costumes. However, we didn’t have any special costume because the main character came in with her daily clothes like jeans and t-shirt

• We investigated the star image and the representation. We also researched how do we get the star image and promote him/her.

Research included (with e.g)

• As a group:As a group:• Props list• Cast list• Treatment• Storyboard• Shooting animatics

• What I did individually:What I did individually:• DigiPack design• Costumes

Explain what you did, WHY you did it, and the impact of doing it

• After we came up with our ideas and finished discussing it me and my team we created a timeline where we collected our idea and represented it on paper.

• We made a storyboard to see how our shots will look like and are we ok with timing of music video.

• Cast list also played a major role in our shoot because we had to know if the people we chose would be able to come to music video shoot that day.

It was important to research the target audienceIt was important to research the target audience

When we did the research into target audience we just went to account of Poppy Hopson in SoundCloud and looked at the people who liked her songs and commented on them. Mostly they were people who were also writing and singing songs independently or playing on guitar. Obviously the target audience would be acoustic song fans and it also could be fans of Ed Sheeran because he is also doing acoustic songs and he also started as writing and singing songs independently.

We needed research into Conventions and real media texts

Convention what we expected to see:

• Extreme close-ups or long shots

• Limited special effects• Dark location• Black and white • Artist is shown in the music

video and kind of promoted.

Real Media Text’s I researched:

• Basic yet slightly abstract narrative- conforms

• Close-ups and long shots- conforms

• Black and white conforms

In summary what did I learn about the research of music video. How did this

inform the concept that I designed• In conclusion making research into various

things like props, costumes, creating storyboard and etc. helped us to see how will the music video look like. We planned everything beforehand so that we would not have any issues during production day and we could see what is missing and on what should we work more.

What Research into Location, Props, Costume & set design

• We created a treatment presentation where we summed up everything. We made a research into props. We chose props that would differentiate us from other music videos . We created a twig sculpture from sticks.

• We did not research much into costumes because only white dress was enough for the main character so that she could be visible in the woods

Research into my set design/ locationResearch into my set design/ location

Our research to location was with a target that it had to look mysterious because when we would shoot she had to look lonely in the woods, So we first decide to work in the place that is on our school area but then we changed our idea because we had to make track shot so for tracking shot we need a straight place. So we decided to change our location which was also in our school and it was straight so we were able to make tracking shot.

The Production: The key parts

Storyboarding/ Animatic

• Firstly drawing storyboard gives us a clear vison of all shots and even if we didn’t like it first we could change it and by picture could see how does it look.

• We cut it into animatic to see if we are correct with the timing because we have limited time and again it showed an example of our music video where we could se if we have any mistakes or no.

• You're So Green animatic

Page 12: evaluating music video portfolio

Why make a record of your planning?

• We made records of our planning because we were able to look back rehearsals and through storyboards and our animatic to make informed and quick decisions about our shoot and preparation for the shoot and if there will be any issues we recognise we can solve it quickly.

Important Planning for the Shoot

• Shooting schedule• We made it so that our Media

crew would know where and when production resources should be used and we had to give them exact time because someone else could use the resources.

• We had to plan the shooting schedule because we had to shoot everything by 16:00pm because that was the time of sunset and we had to have light and sun in our music video.

• Casting• As we chose students from our

school we had to make sure that all the teacher have signed their blue card and everyone is aware that they will be away for shoot day.

• We also had to call them a week before to rehearse with them so that they know their role in the music video.

• We always had to email them beforehand so that they would not be busy.

Evaluation

• Our research helped us to create a unique differed music video because research helped us to find out extraordinary props, costumes and etc. to use.

• The research of location and props were successfully done because we were fully equipped and ready on the production day.

• We were going with the planning schedule we had, but the last minute on production day we knew that the main character had to leave for a trip so we changed it on last minute.
