Evaluation Task OneIn what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge for and
conventions for real media products?
In this scene from a film called 99 francs the character put his hands up in the air right before he walks off the edge of the building. In my opinion it is a very powerful shot and the shot from our thriller is very similar to this
specific one
This is an establishing shot from Skyfall features an amazing view of London and clearly displays Bond as being very high in status. Our thriller features a similar establishing shot however we used a green screen
whereas they used an actual location.
In this scene in Divergent Tris is asked to jump off the side of a building this close up camera shot really picks up her facial expressions and the
feelings that are running through her head before she jumps. Our thriller introduction uses the same shot and in my opinion creates the same effect.
In this revealing shot from Halloween it shocks the audience and creates dramatic irony as we know that the person is behind whereas the character doesn't. Our thriller has a very similar shot that we used with a
sound effect to create tension in the introduction.
There is also a similar shot used in the film birdman however in this case the man can
fly where as in our thriller he cant.
In the film Saving Private Ryan a similar shot is used too our thriller where the character is looking out into the distance. This sets the
scene of where the person is and creates an atmosphere. You are almost being put into the eyes of the character and are seeing what they
are seeing.
Again there is a similar shot in the city in birdman
In the film spy there is a “shot” of the gun pointing at a target. This draws the audiences attention to the gun and then the person in front
of it to heighten the danger. We have a similar shot in our thriller however we over-layered the gun using a green screen and post
production to help.
Looking Back It would have been very nice to change the different angles of the
city's backdrop to make it look more professional and add a different perspective however we were limited on stock footage with different angles and it wouldn't’t of matched up.
A shot like this from lethal weapon would add so much depth if used in my thriller
The idea of someone in a film/television show standing on the side of a building about to jump is quite a
common thing, however I believe the plot in our thriller adds a much stronger twist that other examples lack
