OUR THERAPEUTIC SHOES PROVIDE A GOOD HOLD

For a well-fitting shoe, a proper heel hold is just as important as diverse options for adjustment on the instep. In addition, shoes need to have enough space for the toes. That makes accurate sizing of shoes especially important.

For children and youths, that is calculated as follows:

BECAUSE THE SHOE HAS TO FIT

Our feet have the task of carrying us throughout our lives. That makes shoes especially important. They should protect us and yet also be comfortable. And not have a negative influence on growth.

GOOD TO KNOW: the feet of a small child (up to the age of four) will generally grow up to two centimetres a year, which is as much as three shoe sizes. From the age of four, the growth can be as much as two shoe sizes per year. In order to avoid damage to the feet, shoes should never be bought in sizes that are too small, nor too big. So in this case, size matters.

The design of our therapeutic shoes is heavily inspired by everyday regular shoes, so that the fashion aspect, which plays a particularly important role in adolescence, is taken into account. With a wide variety of materials, types of leather and different fabrics, we have developed a diverse collection that combines trends with therapeutic benefits – so that the feet are optimally cared for.

However, we may not always satisfy personal taste. For example, children, teens or adults may like one of our models, but would prefer it in a different combination of colours or materials to the one shown in the catalogue. With that in mind, we have developed the my design configurator, which allows you to create your own unique pair of shoes according to your own individual preferences.

From the sole to the laces, there are numerous design variations with a wide range of colours. Just print out your chosen template, take it to your retailer and order your self-configured model. Deviations in colour are possible and we reserve the right to make changes.

LEATHER IS A NATURAL PRODUCT

We work exclusively with manufacturers who meet our high standards of top-quality workmanship and sustainable production. This is the only way to fully meet the health-related needs of our customers.

The leather used for our therapeutic shoes is therefore subject to statutory test criteria. Constant inspections – of everything from leather tanning to workmanship in footwear construction – ensure consistently excellent quality. Occasional scratches or scarred insect bites, which may be present on the upper leather, are clear evidence of the natural quality of the material and not a processing defect.

The leather symbol acts as a quality seal documenting the quality of the leather and providing the best-possible security.

OnDry by onSteam – KEEPING THE INSIDE OF SHOES DRY

Moist feet are usually the result of excessive sweating inside the shoe. This can even lead to the soaking of the shoe lining

To counteract this, we use our ‘OnDry by onSteam’ inner lining material in many of our new shoe models. This exceptional microfibre material has the special benefits of being extremely absorbent and sweat-resistant.

Its special membrane function aids moisture evaporation, keeping the inside of shoes dry. In addition, the material is 100% breathable, heat-regulating and odour-neutralising.

ROTATION HEELS

With each step, the (de-)rotation heel supports the natural gait pattern and accelerates the correction of leg rotation errors.

The effective wearing period of a pair of (de-)rotation heels is between four and six weeks. The rotation is not reduced by individual fins breaking off during the six-week wearing period. Even with three or four fins, rotation is still effective. This can be easily checked by pressing the heel area of the shoe with your hand.

Correction usually takes place over a period of nine months, during which at least six pairs of (de-)rotation heels are used. Of course, the treatment period depends on the severity of the rotation error.

INTERCHANGEABLE ‘COMFORT’ HOOK-AND LOOP FASTENERSSome models offer you two ways to attach the Hook-and Loop fasteners. That gives you the choice of fastening the shoe with or without a pulley system. In this way, you can ensure the ideal fit for the foot and the best-possible hold.

INSOLE CARE

INSOLES ARE OFTEN ESSENTIAL WHEN USING THERAPEUTIC SHOES

Support for the anatomical structure in the form of an insole can be helpful to complement therapy with an anti-varus shoe. Among other benefits, an orthopaedic insole can be used to improve hindfoot guidance.

In the case of one-sided treatment with an orthosis and corresponding orthotic shoe, the other side often also needs an insole. This can be a supportive, corrective or stimulating insole.

In order to optimise the effect and function of a stabilising shoe, it is often supplemented by an insole for appropriate treatment.

In order to achieve the desired therapy goal and the required effect, our Novaped orthopaedic foot supports are available in different designs and with different material combinations. These are processed by a healthcare technician into a custom-made product according to a medical prescription in order to support, correct or stimulate the foot.

Many people often find wearing a leg orthosis restricts their freedom of movement. Our orthotic shoes are therefore designed to ensure an optimal fit for the foot, orthosis and therapeutic shoe. The sturdy heel cap in combination with the raised and flexible shaft edge ensures a good fit and high stability.

But an ideal fit is not all that matters. In everyday life in particular, it is extremely important that our orthotic shoes are easy to put on and take off. With that in mind, many of our models have a tab to simplify putting on and removing them.

ORTHOTIC SHOE WIDTH TN12

To provide for large-sized orthotics, together with craftspeople we have developed the width TN12 for our orthotic shoes.

All TN12-width shoes are supplied with two insoles with approx. 40°/50° Shore A hardness. This allows the volume to be adjusted through

the removal of one or both of the insoles.

In this way, the external appearance is not affected. For one-sided treatment, the unaffected foot can be fitted with a different width and shoe size. This is also the case for all other TN widths in the orthotic shoes sector.

ORTHOTIC SHOES FOR JOINT ORTHOTICS

Wearers of joint orthotics need a shoe with a special heel shape. Although the shoe is larger than usual in the hindfoot and heel area, it still has to fit well. This is the only way to ensure an optimal hold and correct movement of the foot when walking. Our orthotic shoes labelled with the symbol shown here have been specially developed to meet those needs.

FLEXIBLE SOLE

Ever thinner and more flexible materials are being used for treatment in the orthopaedics trade. With that in mind, we have introduced an even more flexible sole design for orthotic shoes.

All the shoes labelled ‘Flexible’ in the tables are particularly bendable. However, this has no negative effect on the therapeutic effectiveness of the orthotics.

Originally developed for sport, this quick-lacing system for orthotics wearers with limited motor skills makes putting on and removing shoes considerably easier. The loosening and tightening is performed with the turning wheel. When the wheel is turned, all the laces are uniformly adjusted in a manner adapted to the patient’s foot and set with accuracy down to the millimetre. This fastening ensures a stable hold and the highest level of comfort when wearing the shoe.

We offer two versions of the atop fastening system:

With turning wheel on the rear cap

With turning wheel on the middle of the shoe

Both lacing systems provide excellent hold by uniformly tightening the entire surface.

Compared to conventional laces, which can absorb water or dirt, the low-friction plastic covers wrapped around the fine stainless-steel wires maintain their featherlight weight.

Even under heavy strain, the coil and wire form a long-lasting combination.

Once affixed, the lacing stays in place – the orthotics or the foot are held securely.

SECURE HOLD

TO TIGHTEN:turn the wheel to the right and the laces are fixed thightly.

TO LOOSEN:simply turn the wheel to the left and the laces are loosened.

These models can be further reinforced by two thermoplastically mouldable stabilising rods on the inner and outer side. The stiffening elements are available in two strengths: white = strong, skin-coloured = medium strength. Four white rods are included. This allows for even more lateral stability and rota- tional stability in the ankle joint area, without com-promising the rolling of the foot. The integrated rolling section on the ball of the foot facilitates step initiation.

As is the case with our other therapeutic shoes, individual shoe adjustments can also be made to these models. The applications for the multi-support shoe include, among other things, the follow-up treatment of conservatively or surgically treated capsular ligament lesions in the ankle, capsular ligament insufficiency or Achilles tendon injuries. It is also suitable for immobilisation of the tarsal and metatarsal areas, as well as follow-up treatment of fractures and arthrodesis.

The widths and sizes of shoes can be combined in cases of one-sided treatment.

The child‘s sickle foot is a malposition that is often present from birth and can be well treated with conservative measures. In principle, pigeon toes should be treated as early as possible in order to avoid con-sequential damage. For that reason, treat-ment begins in infancy. Depending on the extent of the malposition, treatment can be carried out with physiotherapy, plaster casts, insoles and night splints.

Corrective accessory:The pigeon toe orthosis for babies is delivered with mounted spring at normal tension, plus two springs for medium and maximum tension and a fastening element.

Depending on the prescription, either dynamic or fixed-position correction is implemented.

SICKLE FOOT AND CLUBFOOT ORTHOSIS

The sickle foot and clubfoot orthosis for babies is a corrective shoe-shaped orthotic device made of soft leather. To permit variable correction, the sole of the orthosis is divided into two parts. The rear foot is supported by a heel cap, while correction of the forefoot misalignment is done by fitting a tension spring at the other edge of the foot in the Lisfranc joint region. The attachment to the large toe’s joint and the cuboid bone area at the outer edge of the foot guids the forefoot into the corrected position. The orthosis is mainly used for infants and toddlers in the crwaling age. After that, night splints may be used if further corrective treatment of the forefoot misalignment is necessary.

SICKLE FOOT AND CLUBFOOT ORTHOSIS

The sickle foot and clubfoot orthosis is a passive corrective orthosis made of polyethylene andused to treat childhood sickele foot and previously treated club foot. The orthosis is a as night splints to correct the forefoot misalignment by the three-point principle. In case of a slight pointed-foot component, an additional thigh grip can be applied to achieve the desired 90° knee angle, thereby relieving the strain on the calf muscles.

BABY SICKLE FOOT SHOES

The sickle foot shoe for babies is equipped with a fixed degree of anti-varus correction. The shoe’s outsole means that it is suitable for standing and walking. In case of one-sided sickle foot, a neutral shoe is available for the unaffected foot.
