• Anyone may participate, the programs are generally recommended for ages 5 to 12

Accessibility and Inclusion STEAM through September is for everyone! If you or your young explorer require special assistance, please contact the participating location prior to arrival to coordinate accommodations. Some services may take up to two days to secure. Advanced notice will help ensure accommodations.

So... what is STEAM?STEAM programs and exhibits are designed to help students develop the skills and abilities they will need to succeed in the future.

Science is careful observation and reasoning.

Technology are the tools used to solve problems.

Engineering is the process of using knowledge.

Art is the ability to communicate and question.

Math is the understanding of relationships.

Together, they make STEAM! Our programs are designed to prepare the innovators, educators, and leaders of the future.

Friday Night at the Museum ($)CHILDREN’S SCIENCE EXPLORIUMKids get the night out, including pizza, movies and science experiments! This month: “Monsters vs. Aliens” and alien slime! Friday, Sept 10, 6pm for ages 7-12.

Intracoastal Adventures ($)GUMBO LIMBO NATURE CENTERBeautiful scenery, fresh air, and exercise! Explore the Intracoastal shores by kayak while learning about the fascinating mangrove and estuary ecosystems of South Florida. Ages 7-adult; children under 18 must sign-up and participate with an adult. Multiple dates and times available.

BuggioCHILDREN’S SCIENCE EXPLORIUMSearch high, seek low, it takes some explorin’ to win buggio! Check in at the front desk for this free bug-hunting challenge. Combine forces and take on the BioBlitz challenge at the same time for two stamps at once!

Make & Take: Refracting Telescope ($)CHILDREN’S SCIENCE EXPLORIUMBuild your own refracting telescope and discover new ways to stargaze! Sunday, Sept. 12 11:30am for ages 5 to 12.

Parks for Pollinators: BioBlitz!GUMBO LIMBO NATURE CENTER AND CITY WIDECalling all Citizen Scientists! Join Gumbo Limbo Nature Center and National Recreation and Park Association in a fun challenge to see how many pollinator species can be documented in your yard and community. Download the iNaturalist app and start taking pictures. Check out our website for more details. Show your iNaturalist account at any of the participating locations to earn a stamp.

Explorium Science Squad ($)CHILDREN’S SCIENCE EXPLORIUMAstronaut Academy: Learn how astronauts overcome the extreme conditions they face in space, then fuel up with a tasty space treat! Tuesday, Sept 7, at 4pm for ages 5 to 7. Wednesday, Sept 8, at 4pm for ages 8 to 12.

Early Afternoon Explorers ($)CHILDREN’S SCIENCE EXPLORIUMGet up close and personal with Earth’s natural satellite as we make tasty moon phases, and land on the moon in our inflatable STARLAB Planetarium. Friday, Sept 17, at 1pm for ages 6 to 9; 2pm for ages 10 to 12.

STEM and Citizen Science KitsBOCA RATON PUBLIC LIBRARYCheck out the selection of curated STEM and Citizen Science exploration kits available at your local library. Check out any of the kits to collect your stamp!

Art Gallery ChallengeBOCA RATON PUBLIC LIBRARYAvailable at the Youth Services desks at both branches, grab a challenge sheet to explore the rotating art exhibits.

Little Wonders & Nature Detectives ($)GUMBO LIMBO NATURE CENTERExplore the Forest: This monthly program will have your budding naturalists exploring the wonders and mysteries of the forest. Includes story time, group activity, and a hands-on craft to take home. Saturday, Sept 18, 10am for ages 3-4, and 12pm for ages 5-6.

Math

Eyes to the Skies CHILDREN’S SCIENCE EXPLORIUMJoin us in our inflatable planetarium for an out of this world math lesson. Monday, Sept 20, at 7pm for ages 5 and up.

StoryWalkPOND HAWK NATURAL AREA, BY THE SPANISH RIVER LIBRARYWalk through the pages of “Just a Minute” by Yuyi Morales, a bilingual trickster tale and counting book.
