Monday, 8/10 Skill focus:Manipulation and recording of metric measurements
Apply the rules of significant digits to express the uncertainty in measured values
Use SI units to make measurements
1. Bell work: Measure the length and width of a note card and a sheet of notebook paper.
2. Ask for student volunteers to share their measurements. Discuss any errors that were made and use these errors to review the recording of measurements to the correct number of significant digits. Discuss if prior knowledge of the size of the objects influenced how the measurement was obtained.
3. Ask students to calculate the area and perimeter of the notecard, and record using correct number of significant digits.
4. Ask for student volunteers to share their calculations. Use student answers to review the rules for recording calculated values to the correct number of significant digits.
5. Dimensional Analysis Activity (Create a unit of measure lab)
