JUNE 1983 JORGENSEN WINS MOVING COMFORT Lori Jorgensen, who learned from mistakes two weeks earlier, won the Moving Comfort Mother's Day 5000 Meter Race at SUNY, Purchase on May 8. Lori toured the one loop course in 18:02 and in doing so she beat Che best female runners in the Westchester-Putnam area. At the Blue Cross YWCA Race two weeks before Lori let Chrissa Lefes get away from her in the first half and des pite a closing charge was unable to catch the White Plains standout. This time Jorgensen, Lefes and Ellie McEvily ran together for the first mile. Chrissa tired but McEvily and Jorgensen matched strides until the closing mile where Lori put the 8 seconds that separated them at the finish. Lefes finished 3rd with a 18:39. Meanwhile only 13 seconds separated 4th, 5th and 6th as Gina Gorman held off Judy Pickert, who in turn out lasted Gina Zambino with times of 18:57, 19:05 and 18:10 respect- tively. Exactly 300 women and girls finished the race which was held on one of the few nice Sundays in May. The fine turn out makes that event the largest women's only race in West chester history. Next year look for over 500. The club is of course pleased and Moving Comfort is also looking forward to next year. Not only were the best local runners present on the open level but several outstanding age group performances were also turned in. The 14 and under had three Yonkers girls scoring well. Colette Intervallo, 12 years old, managed an 11th place finish for a 20:08 clocking to take the age group; an excellent time. Colette was followed by Jeanne Holzman and Terri Dubois. The 30-39 age group saw Judy Pickert (39) finish 5th overall; as Judy was in the top 7 overall scoring she was removed from the age group. Rounding out the top 3 then were Kathleen Peck (9th place) from Southbury, Ct. followed by Barbara Cirami from Mt. Kisco and Peg Mimno from Brewster finishing 12th and 13th respectively. The 40-49 group saw three familiar winners in that brac ket finish 1,2,3. Susan Blaisdell from Danbury, Barbara Meisel from Wayne, N.J. and Wendy Shile from Peekskill took the top spots. Ethel Autorino, Montgomery, won the 50-59 age group as Cricket Laun and Grace Tagliamonte, represent ing Chappaqua and Peekskill respectively rounded out that decade. An interesting note in the 60 plus age group. The winner, Suzanne Dettmer was no surprise as she regularly wins the age group. What was pleasing was her overall finish.
