Discipling the Next Wave

We are officially in the middle of week five of co-leading the 2011 Community Transformations Discipleship Training School. With a staff team of 18 and 82 participants, all running hard after Jesus, it’s rather difficult for us to explain how excited we are about our current season of pouring into the next wave of missionaries. Our students have come from 13 different nations with hearts hungry for the Kingdom of God to be made present on the earth through their lives laid down in obedience to His voice. It’s a radical bunch of world changers and we are so honored to be in a place of intentionally discipling and preparing them to head into the nations of the earth. The students have already had teaching and practical application in the areas of The Character and Nature of God, Hearing and Obeying the Voice of God, Evangelism, Freedom and Discipleship, and Intimacy with Jesus. Steve is gearing up to teach for a week on Worldview at the end of November. One of our favorite memories so far occurred half way through week 3 when at random one of the DTS students began to give feedback about their teaching on Walking with Jesus. Someone began beating on a drum and spontaneously one by one almost every student shared a testimony of how God was pursuing their hearts and replacing the religion they carried with intimate love for Him. About an hour in, a massive dance party erupted as a tremendous sense of joy filled the room. Afterwards, in

what seemed like the only appropriate response to what the Lord was doing, a call for public baptism went out. Before we knew it, our entire clan of 100 marched down to the ocean front. Over 50 students and staff were baptized in front of their classmates as well as hundreds of tourists from a cruise ship docking near by. At the end a homeless man came sneaking through the crowds that had gathered and dedicated his life to Jesus in the waters of baptism as well. What a crazy celebration! We are ever humbled to be part of the radical transformation that is taking place in the lives of our DTS community. In seven short weeks we’ll be sending out 9 teams to Japan, Cambodia, Nepal, South Sudan (the newest nation on earth!), Jordan, South Africa, Mozambique, New York and Los Angeles to empower the voiceless, proclaim the gospel and join Jesus in transforming other communities through His love. Our family will be heading back to South Africa for the first two months of 2012 (see the back page for details on the trip) to continue our efforts there as well as to pray into futures. During these months Steve will also likely take a two week pastoral trip to visit four or five of the outreach teams around the world. Join us in prayer as we prepare to launch these fireballs into the world. May Christ receive the reward for His suffering.

Prayer Requests

+ Pray for life long missional vocations to be planted in the hearts of these students during this season.

+ Pray for safe travel and health for our teams as well as our family - especially for little Margot’s first round of international travel (GRACE LORD!).

+ Pray for hope and strength to take root in our hearts.

Baby Margot

In late September/Early October our parents came to visit us in Hawaii. It was amazing to introduce baby Margot to them and such a blessing to spend some quality time together. What a joy to watch their eyes light up and hearts melt...but then how could they not, Margot is rather easy on the eyes. It’s hard to believe that our little Rabble Rouser is almost two months old already! Her personality is starting to come out and her laugh could (and does) make a grown man cry (i.e. Steve). Becoming parents has been so much more incredible than either of us could ever have imagined. We’ve learned so much from her and we’re excited to show her the world. Diane is doing fabulous. It’s amazing how quickly she bounced back even after the post-birth complications which left her blood count so low. It seems heaps of liquid iron and communities that pray do a lot of good. A huge thank you to all of you for your prayers and encouragement in this season of transition. Being a family with kids in missions isn’t always the simplest task to undertake, but with such overwhelming love and support we feel more confident than ever in the direction God is taking our growing family.

Let Justice Roll Down Seminar

Looking towards next year, we are excited to share about a seminar we have been pioneering for the University of the Nations here in Kona, HI. It’s title comes from Amos 5:24 - ‘The Let Justice Roll Down Seminar’. It’s focus is on practical training and equipping of missionaries for works of justice and active peacemaking. This seminar has been burning in our hearts for about a year now and is a direct response to the growing interest of young missionaries entering the missions field with a passion to be a part of the solution to issues like Human Trafficking, Global Poverty and War. There is simply a massive void of intentional training within YWAM towards these ends and so we are so excited to have the opportunity to pioneer this seminar for the UofN. The LJRD Seminar will be running May 18th - June 8th of 2012 and is open to YWAMers and Non-YWAMers alike who want to engage with God’s heart for the poor and oppressed and be equipped to see the Kingdom come in it’s fullness in the margins of the earth. We invite you to join us next year! To find out much more visit the seminar website below:
