FOREWORD As we enter into 2012, the SABS Training Academy is once more proud and privileged to bring to you quality education, training and development. We continue to provide excellent and professional training services to all our customers. To ensure relevant training that will maximize your return on investment, we will continue to offer our services as an active partner at both executive and operational levels. We pledge to honour our commitment in providing our talents and experiences, not only nationally, but also to our neighbouring SADC countries and all interested parties. Our competitive edge is in the expertise at our disposal. Since 1984 the SABS Training Academy has trained over 20 000 auditors in different disciplines. We proudly continue to do so through our outcomes-based courses. Our course structures have been expanded to keep pace with industry demands and new courses are being presented yearly using the latest learning and development approach. GENERAL INFORMATION

COURSE APPLICATIONS

As much as we try to accommodate all learners where possible, the maximum number of trainees that can BE accommodated in our courses is 15 per group, mainly due to optimization of the learning experience. Therefore, to avoid disappointment we urge you to submit written application within 20 working days prior to commencement of the course.

The application form is attached at the back of the brochure and should be completed and faxed to the number indicated i.e. 012 428 6623, alternatively these can be scanned and e-mailed to [email protected]

VERY IMPORTANT: Application forms should reach the Training Acade my 20 working days prior to commencement of the course.

ACCOUNT APPLICATIONS

The SABS has implemented a new Credit Management Procedure to help manage the credit risk we are exposed to. All customers applying for our courses without an existing account (i.e. a credit account or cash account) with the SABS will be required to complete the account application form, AA88. This ensures that all customers are billed on their own unique customer account that has been created in the SABS accounts system.

Should you or your company NOT have an account with the SABS, please ensure that your Course Application form is accompanied by the Account Application form.

REGISTRATIONS

After receipt of your completed application form, you will be forwarded with a quotation. Upon acceptance of the quotation, proof of acceptance should be returned accompanied by an authorised documented purchase order number (on the official company letter-heads), alternatively proof of payment should be faxed through to SABS Training Academy. Confirmation of the booking will be sent to you upon receipt of all required information.

FEES

All course fees are charged per person and per module (i.e. module 1 and 2 are charged separately).

PAYMENT

Course fees are payable in full and in advance . Failure to provide proof of payment will lead to the learner being refused entry to the course. Proof of payment must be submitted to the Course Ad ministrator 10 working days prior to attendance of class.

A 10% discount will be awarded where 3 or more learners from the same organisation attend the same course at the same time and are paid for on the same date. (Not applicable to In-house courses where a separate quote will be issued for the presentation of that course.)

Tax Invoice – Can only be provided upon receipt of an authorised purchase order number (if the organisation has an account with SABS).

CANCELLATIONS

All cancellations and postponements of confirmed bookings must be received in writing at least 10 working days prior to commencement of the course. If not, a cancellation/postponement fee of 50% of the course fee will be deducted.

Should a learner not attend a course without providing prior notification of cancellation or postponement, then the full course fee will be payable.

Note: The SABS Training Academy reserves the right to ca ncel any course, but undertakes to inform all affected learners as early as possible regarding su ch cancellations. The only reason that a course w ould be cancelled and/or postponed is due to insufficien t number of learners.

TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION

Learners are responsible for their own travel and accommodation arrangements. As per request, we can assist by supplying contact numbers of guesthouses, hotels or bed and breakfast establishments in the vicinity.

COURSE PRESENTATION

Courses will be presented in English only. Special needs will, however be considered in line with our language policy, especially in cases where In-house courses are presented. 100% ATTENDANCE IS A REQUIREMENT.

Courses are presented using a variety of training methods and techniques, and these include lectures, videos, assignments, handbooks and exercises. Group participation is encouraged throughout, as it enhances the learning experience.

Where a course consists of more than one module, it is compulsory that the modules be done in sequence (i.e. Module 1 first and then Module 2).

Note: For ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001:2007, the legal courses are strongly advised for better understanding of the legislation and by-laws govern ing the afore-mentioned courses.

ACCREDITATION

The SABS Training Academy is registered with SAATCA for the following auditing modules: - ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001. Our SAATCA Registration number is 003. The Training Academy is also accredited by the SERVICES SETA, accreditation number 3842 as a provider of education and training for the delivery of the following programmes:-

i. Quality Management Systems: Implementation and evaluation of ISO 9001:2008 –NQF level 5 with 12 Credits

ii. Quality Management Systems: Auditing ISO 9001:2008 –NQF level 5 with 10 Credits

CERTIFICATION

100% attendance is required from each learner for certification purposes.

Where examinations are required, the following rules will apply:

The pass mark for all courses is 60%. For courses where SAATCA certification is sought; the pass mark required is 70%. In both instances a certificate of achievement will be issued.

Should a learner achieve between 40% - 59%, one re-write of the examination will be allowed within a 4-month period from the date of the initial examination at no charge. All re-writes will only be marked up to 60%.

Re-marks requested beyond the 4-months period will be charged at R500. This is only allowed within the year of attendance, otherwise learners will be required to re-attend at a fee.

If a learner achieves less than 40% for the specific module or course, he/she will be required to re-do the course at own cost.

Where no examinations are required, certificates of attendance will be issued.

RE - ISSUE OF CERTIFICATES

Certificates will be issued within 3 months of completion of training, provided all necessary requirements have been fulfilled, including payments. All re-issue requests done after the stipulated period will be at a cost of R350 per certificate.

IN-HOUSE PRESENTATION OF COURSES

All SABS Training Academy courses can be presented In-house i.e. SABS trainer(s) will be sent to present the training at your organisation. These training courses can be customized to suit the client’s requirements.

Only written requests for In-house training will be accepted and these should be accompanied by the client’s proposed training dates. To facilitate professional service, efficient planning and supply of competitive quotation, a client is requested to provide notification of where the training will be presented.

A quotation will then be sent. Upon receipt of the quotation, a written acceptance with a documented purchase order number on the company letter-heads will be expected (if they have an account with SABS) alternatively, they may apply for a credit account by completing the AA88 form.

NOTE: In-house courses will be presented to a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 learners per sessio n.

The client or organisation will be responsible for providing a suitable training room with audiovisual equipment and all necessary training tools (includi ng projectors, flip charts etc.) as well as refresh ments.

ISO 9001:2008 QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Organisations all over the world have realized the benefits of implementing and maintaining quality management

systems based on the ISO 9000 series of standards, since it improves the efficiency and effectiveness of an

organisation’s operation. It provides consistency in the quality of a product and/or service. It also drives an

organisation to meet and exceed customer expectations, leading to an increase in market and shareholder value.

The course will enhance the understanding of the standards and their requirements, thus enabling learners to

implement and maintain such systems in their respective organisational environments.

INTRODUCTION TO QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

The standard for Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2008) requires that: -

• Personnel in the organisation are made aware of the quality policy and objectives of the organisation.

• Personnel are made aware of their roles and responsibilities within the organisation and its quality management system.

This course aims to help organisations comply with the ISO 9001:2008 requirements. It ensures that learners

attending the training understand and are able to interpret the basics of the standard. It also helps to make

personnel aware of the importance of their roles in the organisation and assists them to achieve and exceed

customer satisfaction.

ISO 14001:2004 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (EMS)

Introduction

Organisations have a legal and social responsibility regarding the environment within which they operate. This requires a sound environmental management system. This is due to organisations’ impact on the environment through their operational activities, products and services. ISO 14001 has been written to be applicable to all types and sizes of organisations. The overall aim of ISO 14001 is to support environmental protection and prevention of pollution in balance with socio-economic needs. The training is applicable to all employees requiring an understanding of environmental management systems or those involved with the establishment, implementation, maintenance, continual improvement, management and evaluation of an ISO 14001 (EMS). Note 1: It is preferable that learners are already famili ar with environmental issues as the course focuses on the requirements and implementation of m anagement systems. Note 2: Learners are strongly advised to attend the Enviro nmental Legal Requirements course. This will become a pre-requisite in future

Introduction

The minimum legal requirements of ISO 14001 necessitate a commitment by the Organisation’s top management to comply with all the applicable environmental legislation. In order to implement this commitment, organisations must identify and have access to all applicable legal requirements. The relevance and application of the identified laws should also be understood and captured in the environmental management systems.

It follows that the legal requirements, together with the other elements of the environmental policy, must guide the organisations objectives and targets and environmental management programmes. It must also be incorporated into operational and monitoring procedures where appropriate.

The fragmentation of South Africa’s environmental legislation makes the isolation and interpretation of applicable legislation complex. Therefore, our legal training course has been designed to equip learners with a working knowledge of the most important South African environmental laws. The course also highlights the practical application of the law to the typical industrial and mining environment. The main objective of the course is to enable learners to identify and relate the applicable laws to their industries’ activities, products and services.

Environmental legal issues should be strategic priority of every Organisation. Therefore, personnel tasked with the implementation, management and evaluation of an environmental management system (EMS) effectively, they require an understanding of legal issues pertaining to EMS.

OHSAS 18001:2007 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS (OHSMS)

Introduction

Organisations have a legal and social responsibility regarding the occupational health and safety of all employees in their working environment. This requires sound occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS) due to hazards and risks that can have a detrimental effect on employees. OHSAS 18001:2007 has been written to be applicable to all types and sizes of organisations. The overall aim of the standard is to enable organisations to identify, eliminate or at least minimise and control their occupational hazards and lower their risks through improvement of OHSMS performance. All employees requiring an understanding of the OHSMS, or those involved with the establishment, implementation, maintenance, continual improvement, management and evaluation of an OHSAS 18001:2007 (OHSMS) should attend. Note 1: It is preferable that learners are already familiar with health and safety issues and risk assessments as the course focuses on the requiremen ts and interpretation of the management systems. SAATCA EXAMINATIONS Through the years we have established that the majority of our clients attend our courses to be able to conduct audits within their organisations as well as those that are interested in making auditing a career. These learners are afforded the opportunity to write a SAATCA accredited examinations.

After successful completion of SABS accredited Auditing courses, learners who wish to pursue a career as auditors and register with SAATCA, will need to pass the SABS auditing module with a 70% pass mark and thus, will be afforded the opportunity to write the external “SAATCA Board” examination at a SAATCA selected venue. These examinations must be written within 6 months after completion of the course. It is expected that learners have experience before they attempt to write this examinations and attain the 70% pass mark required for SAATCA entry level .

The SABS Training Academy examinations are currently SAATCA accredited and learners need to attain 70% or more to be eligible for application to SAATCA. SAATCA registration requirements need to be complied with as per the set SAATCA criteria. The duration of the SAATCA examinations is 2 hours. A learner will be offered only 1 opportunity to write the SAATCA with the SABS Training Academy. A certificate will be issued to indicate that the learner passed the SABS/SAATCA approved examinations.

The SAATCA will in the near future be designing and developing “SAATCA BOARD” examinations for registration of auditors. The SABS Training Academy can therefore not guarantee that their currently accredited examinations and certificates will enable future eligibility for application, as currently accepted by SAATCA. We are awaiting SAATCA directives and clarifications on the matter.

Introduction

The number of tragic accidents experienced by South Africans justifies the stipulation by the Department of Transport, which requires Vehicle Test Stations to comply with certain regulatory requirements, one of these being SANS 10216. SANS 10049:2011 FOOD SAFETY MANAGEMENT - REQUIREMENTS FOR PREREQUISITE PROGRAMMES (PRPs)

PREREQUISITE PROGRAMMES ON FOOD SAFETY FOR FOOD MANUFACTURING (SANS 10049) is a standard prepared by the South African Bureau of Standards to specify the requirements for prerequisite programmes to assist in controlling food safety hazards. Introduction: The ISO 9001:2008 standard for Quality Management Systems is based on processes and systems that affect the quality of products and services throughout their life cycle. QUALITY AWARENESS WORKSHOP FOR TOP MANAGEMENT – ISO 9001:2008

Introduction: In the past, compliance with the standard was often the Quality Manager’s responsibility. This resulted in a Quality Management System operating in isolation within the Quality Assurance Department. The intent of ISO 9001:2008 is that Top Management has to demonstrate its support and involvement in the development and implementation of the QMS. Thus active participation in establishing and managing processes to ensure compliance with the needs of customers, interested parties, legal and/or regulatory requirements is vital.

Course duration and outline: half (1/2) day The course consists of the following:

• Quality Concepts and Terminology • Requirements of ISO 9001:2008 • Management Responsibility • Quality Policy and Objectives at all functions and levels • Quality Management Principles and their application

INTERNAL AUDITING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYST EMS (EMS) – ISO 14001:2004

Introduction: The implementation of an Environmental Management System in accordance with the ISO 14001:2004 necessitate that more employees understand the standards’ requirements as well as their roles in maintaining the system. The main aim of this course is to enable learners to assist in the evaluation of their own organisations’ Environmental Management Systems. Course duration and outline: five (5) days The course consists of the following:

ISO/TS 16949:2009 – QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS – PARTICULAR REQUIREMENTS FOR THE APPLICATION OF ISO 9001:2008 F OR AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTION AND RELEVANT SERVICE PART ORGANIZATIONS

This course aims to help organizations comply with the requirements and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its processes. The auditing module, aims to help organizations improve their performance in performing internal quality audits and to provide management with an effective independent evaluation of performance. COURSE OUTCOMES The course duration is three (3) days per module Module 1: Understanding and implementation of the requirements of ISO/TS16949:2009.

• An overview of the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and the development of ISO/TS16949 for the automotive industry.

Entering Pretoria on N4 from Witbank/Emalahleni

• On entering Pretoria, the N4 becomes Pretorius Street. • The Holiday Inn Garden court will be on your right. • Keep to the left hand lane as you will have to turn left into Duncan Street. (It’s about one or two

robots from when you get off highway) • Proceed on Duncan all the way up, (You will pass over two main streets i.e. Lynwood Road and

Charles Street), up to the Brooklyn Mall Circle (an island where a few roads come together). Go around the island and take the Middel Street turning.

• Middel Street changes into George Storrar about a kilometre down. • Keep to the right-hand lane as you will turn right on Totius street. • Along George Storrar, you will see the Little Company of Mary Hospital on your right and SPAR

AND ENGEN will be on your left. At the intersection turn right onto Totius street. The SABS buildings will be on your left hand side.
