Cambridge Minnesota Kennel Club Minutes
Date: July 09, 13 Present: Glen Kothe, Tim Bergeron, Wayne Harmon, Donna Erickosn, Eileen Bowen, Rick Majkrzk and Theresa Goiffon Meeting called to order and May Minutes approved. Secretary Report: Read "Thank you" notes from Judges. We did not have a meeting in June. Treasurer's Report: We are on budget close to $37,000, which includes AKC fees, filing fee and application fee all included. Obedience funds are still coming. This includes the $10,000 donation. Motion to accept. Motion passed. Delegate Report: The next meeting is on September 10th. We are looking at reducing the time of distributing premium lists to 5 weeks to the close of the show. Also to reduce printing since 90% are sent on line. The idea is to accept on-line premium lists. Elections the 1st day have 4 opening positions to fill in areas such as; obedience, by-laws, dog shows and rules. Wayne might apply for one of those positions.
Committee Reports: Legislative: No report.
Membership: No new members
Old Business: Agility: July Agility went well. New facility is fantastic. Nice and cool with great turf. We are going to see if we can get the facility again on the 4th of July, 2014 which falls on a Friday. Working on doing it again next year. Summer Solstice: Total entries for 2011- 4816, 2012 - 4981, 2013 - 4556 total entries were down 425 with the largest amount for being down was Saturday at -138 (1225 entries) The Sporting, Hound and Working breeds are holding their own. Terriers, Toys and Non-sporting having been going down. The Herding breeds have continued to get larger. Chang-ing the Lure Coursing from Sat-Sun to Fri-Sat appeared to not have much effect on the entry. The tent proved to be a great addition for making Ring 4-5 larger and more accessible. Dates for the next cluster will be June 19-22, 2014 Rick reported the average RV Rental was down 5 or 6 spots. 2012 $11,800 and 2013 $10,800 Match scheduled on October 25th. Sue is looking for an obedience person and conformation. Hope to have both confor-mation and obedience at the same time. Education Committee: The committee continues to meet. Plans in the works to have 4 different seminars. 1) Youth- stories to read and coloring books 2) Boy Scouts teaching responsible dog ownership 3) Teaching the versatility of dogs and all they do. 4) Family oriented, choosing a breed best for you, all the different breeds, etc. That com-mittee members are: Wayne Harmon, Karen Lard, Beth Hatch, Cheryl Zitto and Carol Wirkkunen New Business: New Member: Kathy Haglof- approved. AKC Animal Recovery: Animal recovery and emergency equipment trailers are to be in implemented in each state. They are housed in easily accessed areas and include $17,000 to $20,000 of equipment. The demographics of where-these trailers are placed must be within a 25 mile radius of the parent club, ours of course being Cambridge, Minnesota.

News from Sally: Sonar got his final double qualifying requirement for his RAE title in late June. That title requires 10 of these double qualifiers, in advanced rally and excellent rally. I was very proud of him the last day, as he managed to score 99 out of a possible 100 points, for 1st place in the rally advanced class. His entire title now is: AKC Gch, UKC BIS Ch Sonbar’s Sonic Shockwave D RAE OA OA. News from Annette Bujold: Monte (Just Baker's Monte Carlo) was invited to attend the HIT of HITS in Manitoba, Canada. He got a High In Trial last year in the Novice B class. Congratulations Annette Bujold! News from: Heather Carlson: Doberman 'Ransom's Smooth Criminal' A.K.A. Capone took Winners Dog and Best of Winners at the Duluth Kennel Club on Friday and Winners Dog on Saturday, and Re-serve Winners Dog on Sunday.

RECALL NOTICE!
August 14, 2013 — The Procter and Gamble Company of Cincinnati, Ohio has announced it is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its dry pet foods because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
The recall has been confirmed in a Food and Drug Administration News Bulletin dated August 14, 2013.
The lots were distributed in the United States and represent about one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of
annual production.
According to the company, no Salmonella-related illnesses have been reported to date in association with these product lots.
The affected products were made during a 10-day window at a single manufacturing site. P&G’s routine
testing determined that some products made during this timeframe have the potential for Salmonella con-tamination.
As a precautionary measure, P&G is recalling the potentially impacted products made during this time-

The Dog Days of Summer
Where did the term “The Dog Days of Summer” originate? It wasn’t ancient teachers. Nor was it our old buddy Scooby Doo who came up with the phrase Dog Days of Summer. We actually have to go way back to the ancient Romans who noticed the brightest star in the sky, called Sirius or The Dog Star, happened to rise and fall right with the sun during the hottest time of the year.
They believed Sirius was responsible for the extra heat which made those particular days hotter than all of the others. Sirius is brightest star of the constellation Canis Major (The Big Dog). So, as you can imagine, those days quickly became known as The Dog Days. The Romans called it “Caniculares Dies” (The Days of the Dog). In Mexico, the hottest days of summer are referred to as “La Canicula.” Traditionally, The Dog Days of Summer are the 40 days from July 3rd to August 11th. Generally speaking, however, the period from early July to early September is often referred to as the Dog Days.
