LEADER OF THE PRIDE

MATT PATRICIAHead CoachSeasons with Lions: 1Seasons in NFL: 15

PATRICIA HIRED TO LEAD LIONS ON FEB. 5, 2018As Detroit’s 27th coach in franchise history, Patricia has emphasized the dedication and passion to championship-caliber football that has defined him throughout his coaching career.

"I want to represent the toughness of this city. We will be organized. We will be detailed. We will teach and develop our players and our coaches. We will be passionate. We will love and respect the game, and we will be committed to winning."

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT PATRICIALions Executive Vice President & General Manager Bob Quinn: “When we launched the search for our next head coach, I wanted to find a leader that could take us to the next level and I am confident we have found that in Matt Patricia. Matt is driven to succeed, has extreme passion for the game and excels in preparation. He embodies the same hard-working, blue-collar attributes that represent our organization and the great City of Detroit.”

Lions OL Graham Glasgow on what he senses from Patricia & how he's laid out what he wants to do with this team: “He’s always just down to brass tacks. He’s very straight forward and his goals are to win and to just win every week. And that’s something that all of us can get behind.”

Lions LB Jarrad Davis on what he learned about Patricia in the offseason & how much of a difference a coach can be in the NFL: “It can be a huge difference. The way he came in, honestly, just set the tone right away. You know, he came in, he laid down the law, he gave us the rules and he came in with energy. He wasn’t saying, ‘Oh, this is how it’s going to be.’ He came in, he made it clear, gave us the expectations, and now we have something we can chase."

Lions G T.J. Lang on his first impressions of Patricia: “He’s won quite a few championships and knows the way it’s supposed to go, knows how winning football looks. Excited to have him as a coach... Anytime you get a chance to work with a guy with such a great resume that he has, you’ve obviously got to be excited about that.”

BOB QUINNExecutive Vice President and General ManagerSeasons with Lions: 3Seasons in NFL: 19

NEW TO DETROIT IN 2018

BUILDING FOR SUCCESSIn 2016, his first season at the helm, Quinn became the Lions’ first general manager to guide the team to the playoffs in his inaugural season since Nick Kerbawy in 1952.

¾Entering his third season, Quinn's ongoing commitment to improve all aspects of the club's football operations was highlighted by naming Matt Patricia the team's new head coach in 2018. ¾Along with the nearly 40-percent changeover and upgrade to the team’s roster he inherited in 2016, Quinn’s changes paid dividends in 2016 when the Lions finished 9-7 on the team’s way to the playoffs. ¾ In his second season, Quinn continued to build upon his vision including restructuring the player personnel department and scouting evaluation processes; renovating the team’s weight room and practice fields along with other facility improvements; upgrading the team’s football information and video technology; and instituting a comprehensive nutritional program, which included the hiring of a performance dietician for the players.

DRAFTING EXPERTISEQuinn’s first three draft classes have featured strength up front on both sides of the ball, as well as speed in key positions. LB Jarrad Davis, the Lions’ 2017 first-round selection out of Florida, led all rookies in total tackles last season with 96, while fifth-round pick CB Jamal Agnew led the NFL in punt return touchdowns (2) and punt return average (15.4) en route to Associated Press First Team All-Pro honors. Quinn's initial draft class in 2016 featured the selection of six linemen on offense and defense, the most linemen in a Lions draft since 1989 and the most ever in a seven-round draft.

PATRIOTS PASTDuring his time with New England, Quinn served a number of roles in the player personnel department, including most recently as Director of Pro Scouting from 2012-15. While he worked as Director of Pro Scouting, the Patriots won Super Bowl XLIX and four-straight AFC East Division championships.

¾ From 2009-2012, Quinn was the Assistant Director of Pro Personnel. For the previous nine years, Quinn worked in several different capacities within the Patriots player personnel department, including roles in college scouting as a National Scout and Regional Scout. He played an integral role in evaluating and procuring talent for the team through the NFL draft process, free agency, trades, etc. ¾While working for the New England Patriots, he helped contribute to one of the most impressive stretches in NFL history, one that produced four Super Bowl titles. Since 2000, Quinn’s first year with New England, the Patriots have won six AFC Championships, 13 AFC East titles, 12+ games in a season 10 times (which includes the past six years) and 10+ games in 14 of his 16 seasons.

GETTING TO THE QUARTERBACK The Detroit Lions have been among the NFL leaders at getting to the quarterback through the first two games of the 2018 season. The team has tallied 8.0 sacks through Week 2, the third-highest mark in the NFL. Five different Lions have produced sacks through the first two games of a season for the first time since 2012.

In Week 2 at San Francisco, four different linebackers logged sacks in the first half. This marked the first time the Lions have ever had four different linebackers each produce a sack in one half of a game. The last time the Lions had four different linebackers produce a sack in a game was on Oct. 11, 1987 at Green Bay.

Lions linebackers combined for 6.0 sacks in Week 2 at San Francisco. This is the most sacks Lions linebackers have ever combined for in a single game since sacks became an official NFL statistic in 1982.

LB Devon Kennard and LB Jarrad Davis both produced 2.0 sacks in Week 2 at San Francisco. Kennard became the first Lions linebacker to register a sack in the first two games of a season since Jimmy Williams did so to open up the 1985 season and is the first Lions

linebacker to have a sack streak since Stephen Tulloch had one in Weeks 2-3 of the 2014 season. This marks the first time the Lions have ever had two linebackers log 2.0 sacks in the same game. The last time a team had multiple linebackers produce 2.0-or-more sacks in the same game was Pittsburgh in Week 1 at Cleveland in 2017.

Dating back to the 2017 NFL season, Kennard and DE Ezekiel Ansah are the only NFL players to record a sack in each of their last three games played. Kennard is tied for second in the NFL among linebackers and tied for third in the NFL with 3.0 sacks through the first two weeks of the season. Davis is one of four linebackers in the NFL to log 2.0-or-more sacks through the first two weeks of the season.

TEAM NEWS AND NOTESCAPTAIN KENNARD Since Week 11 of the 2017 season, Lions LB Devon Kennard has produced 6.0 sacks. This mark is tied for fourth among linebackers during that span.

Dating back to the 2017 season, Kennard has recorded a sack in three consecutive games. This marks Kennard’s first three game sack streak since Weeks 13-15 of the 2014 season and he can extend his streak to a career best four games vs. New England. The last pure Lions linebacker to produce a sack in three consecutive games was Antonio London, doing so in Weeks 13-15 of the 1995 season.

With a sack against New England, Kennard will become only the fifth Lion and first Lions linebacker to record 4.0-or-more sacks through the first three games of a season.

NEW DIGGSAfter signing a contract extension to remain a Detroit Lion through the 2021 season, DB Quandre Diggs recorded the Lions’ first interception of the season on the first play from scrimmage in Week 1 against the Jets. Diggs returned the interception 37 yards to give the Lions an early 7-0 lead.

¾ Diggs is one of only seven players to record a pick-six through Week 2. His 37-yard return against the Jets was the third-longest of the season behind only Rams CB Marcus Peters (50 yards) and Bears CB Prince Amukamara (49 yards).

ONE-LIONERS

Get to know the 2018 Detroit Lions on and off the field through their own stories

FOOTBALL IN JAPANDuring the 2018 offseason, RB LeGarrette Blount teamed up with USO Japan to host a free youth football camp in Yokosuka, Japan, where over 200 children participated.

#READINGWITHDKLB Devon Kennard began his summer reading challenge in the summer of 2017. His initial intentions were to give kids some motivation to pick up a book and read over their summer break. Each summer he asks questions on his Instagram and Facebook accounts about the books they have chosen and the impact the lessons had on their personal lives. Everyone who participated in the #ReadingWithDK challenge entered the chance to win some signed gear.

SAM MARTIN FOUNDATIONIn 2016, P Sam Martin launched his own

foundation to help improve the lives of children with mental and physical conditions as well as animal welfare. The foundation hosts events such as a celebrity softball game and free youth football camps.

HOMECOMINGAfter growing up about 15 minutes from the Ambassador Bridge in LaSalle, Ontario, TE Luke Willson has returned home to play for his childhood team. He grew up watching players such as Barry Sanders and Herman Moore, and while his family consisted mostly of Green Bay Packers fans, he always supported Detroit.

TAKING BACK THE NARRATIVE During the 2018 offseason, teammates Nevin Lawson and Theo Riddick partnered with Detroit PAL to lead a discussion with young students about advancing the narrative around African-American men. The session, dubbed as a life skills and football camp, was free of charge and extremely influential.

VEGAS STRONGOL Tyrell Crosby, a Las Vegas native, was devestated when his hometown was victim to the worst mass shooting in U.S. history on Oct. 1, 2017. To honor the 58 people who lost their lives that day, Crosby changed his Oregon uniform to No. 58 for his last NCAA game. “Even though I wasn’t there, I felt like I was there — all my friends were affected by it,” Crosby told the Las Vegas Review Journal. Crosby, who wore No. 73 throughout his Oregon career, told ESPN.com, "This is so much more than a game to me. I take a lot of pride in being from Vegas -- especially being a football player from Vegas."

HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT, TOOIn the 2018 offseason, WR Marvin Jones Jr. and his wife, Jazmyn, franchised the bakery ‘Nothing Bundt Cakes’ in Troy, Mich. Fans first got a taste of Jones’ business at the 2018 Taste of the Lions, where Jones and his wife were handing out samples. Jones has also recruited fellow teammates to sign autographs at the shop, helping to introduce Lions’ fans to his new project.

Prater’s 59-yarder surpassed the previous record of 56 accomplished twice by K Jason Hanson (Cle 10/8/95; at Car 11/16/08).

¾Prater’s kick was the longest in the history of Soldier Field. Bears K Robbie Gould made the previous long of 58 yards. ¾ In the 2017 Week 1 win against the Cardinals (9/10) Prater again added to his lore with a 58-yard field goal in the first half. It tied the second-longest field goal in team history that was also set by Prater in 2016 at Minnesota (11/6). ¾Prater's 58-yarder against Arizona (9/10) was also the longest field goal in team history at home. With a 57-yarder in Week 3 vs. Atlanta last season, Prater currently owns the four longest kicks in franchise history.
