Presidents report.

Members.

Moseley Square display on Sunday 24th March 2019 from 10am to 1pm on the forecourt at Moseley

Square, Glenelg.

Tony Morisset advised the passing of past club member John Grenfell. Dean Govan advised me that John

Grenfell was a member but had not seen him for some years and was unsure of his involvement in the club,

but thought he had Norton's at one time.

Chas Lipscombe replied about the Quadrant article in February’s magazine.

Hi, I thought this might be of interest for the next smoke Signal. So I am not alone in having a Quadrant.

Mine is a 1913 Model, no clutch or gearbox and I imported this from the UK because I really wanted an ex-

ample of this make. I believe mine is a TT Model because the original cams are certainly not touring pattern

and the bike certainly goes well. To establish if it really is a TT model I need to remove the barrel and check

if it is a 500cc. The touring Quadrants all seem to be 450cc or 550 ccs but not 500cc. While the bike is run-

ning well I don’t want to disturb it, that can come later. The Wikipedia article is not quite correct. Quadrant

started in Coventry and only later moved to Birmingham. In the veteran period they were associated with

the famous Tom Silver who set up some outstanding endurance records with a Quadrant. He was also very

much involved on the design side at Quadrant and appears in many of their early adverts.

All British Day—Sunday 10th February 2019

VVMCCSA had an excellent display of 11 motorcycles and 2 AJS cars on the day. Some of the motorcycles

mentioned were not present as members changed them for others for the occasion.

We had the privilege of having Rob Smyth and Peter Wilksch’s AJS cars on display and parked either side of

the gazebo where ropes were used to secure them to each car.

In the ‘Racing Heritage’ section there was an ex-works racing Norton rotary which had won the IoM TT race

back in the 1970’s, but unfortunately it suffered fire damage during a demonstration start-up.

Above —tiddlers resting.

Kersbrook tiddlers ride—Sunday 17th February 2019.

Ian Hese was concerned that Sunday’s temperature was to exceed the

clubs policy of ‘no ride’ if the temperature reached 36c. Facebook

entries and emails were sent to all club members informing them of the

clubs temperature policy and if the event’s ride was cancelled to attend

as promised, have a meal and support the Kersbrook Community Club.

Sunday turned out to be a wonderful day with temperatures in the low

30’s and 27 members arrived at Kersbrook ready to ride. 25 members

on motorcycles including Audrey Govan in Dean’s outfit and Bill Lorimer

as back-up trailer driver.

The days ride was uneventful except for Rob Smyth loosing his tool roll

and tools along the way but it was found by Steve Cramp, then Ian

Hese nearly lost his kitbag off the back of the Douglas and Paul Wallis

lost a bolt on the HD clutch requiring the bike to be conveyed home.

Pollard and Harley Davidson Sorry no I don’t have those and I don’t have anything else. I wish I did but I'm still searching for any-

thing but I can’t find out any information as my uncles have all passed away now.

I did find on Trove an advert in the for sale page for William Pollard who was trying to sell a Harley and

sidecar. This was Thurs 7th May 1936 (The Leader, Angaston).

I have sent you now the last pics I have.

One photo is of his 2nd shop in First Street in

Nuriootpa and the other is of him picking up 3

1926 Rugby’s from Adelaide somewhere?

Also the advert from 1936.

I also have to rectify the dates he raced which

I got wrong “OPPS!” It was in fact 1909 and

1910 Not 1915-16 as I had thought.

Regards Jamie

BURRA 2 DAY RALLY. MAY 18/19 2019.

Following from last year’s successful rally we are again going to Burra in May.

There will be several pick up points on the way there, so as to make it easy to join in from wherever you

live. Once again we will also have a start from Burra to ride back to meet those coming up from Adelaide,

ideal for veteran, vintage, lower powered bikes or those that don’t wish to do big distances.

The Saturday night meal will again be at the “La Pecora Nara” restaurant.

More details will be available later as we get closer to the Rally.

The important thing is at this stage is your accommodation. You must book your own accommodation. Sug-

gest that you perhaps get together with other riders and book a cottage at the Paxton Square Cottages,

cheaper per person. Most people stayed there last year. Also available is a motel, several country style ho-

tels and B&Bs.

Contact Brett Mitchell or Ian Hese for any information.

April 6th 2019— Buckingham Arms Hotel Gilberton Combined breakfast coffee morning and display at the Buckingham Arms Hotel on the corner of Walkerville

and Northcote Terraces at Gilberton have been a big supporter of our Club over the last few years with

many donations for our end of year raffles. To show our appreciation of this effort we have decided, in

April, to have our monthly breakfast/coffee gathering there. This will allow us to put our bikes on display

as an attraction for their patrons.

Darryl Rosser will still organize the breakfast /coffee gathering, with our bikes on display.

For those that wish to stay on after coffee and join those that wish to come later, we’ll have the bikes on

display for their lunch time patrons.

Come along and support those that support us.

See you there.

Bikes, Blues and Booze at Left Barrel Brewery at Balhannah Sunday 31st March No it’s not my shopping list!

It is an event that the Left Barrel Brewery at Balhannah have invited us to on Sunday 31st March.

This is a “boutique” style of brewery in the Mitre 10 Complex, on the Main Road at the southern (Freeway)

end of the Balhannah township.

BIKES. The owner would like our bikes on display from 11am till at least 2pm for his customers to admire.

BLUES. A local Blues band will be entertaining us with their music on the day.

BOOZE. It is a brewery after all, with a good range of beers made on site. You can always take some home

if you don’t wish to drink and ride. Water, soft drinks and coffee will of course be available.

The owner has also arranged food trucks to be on site for us and their customers.

For those who will be trailering their bikes, there is ample parking available on site.

Would love to see a range of veteran, vintage, as well as the classic bikes on display.

Those wishing to ride there in an unsupported group, meet at the shopping centre car park corner of Mon-

tacute and Stradbroke Roads Newton. Leaving at 10 it will be an interesting windy, hilly ride, on main and

back roads to Balhannah to arrive by 11am.
