Rise of Fascism In Italy, after WWI (1918)

ended, demand for goods declined

Italian veterans were unable to find jobs & were disillusioned

Italy had lost 600,000 troops in WWI, but received little territory that had been promised

Great social unrest in Italy 1918-1922, land seizures by peasants & huge labor strikes

Rise of Benito Mussolini (b.1883-1945)

Was a WWI vet angry w/ Italy’s poor condition.

He became a leader of a new political movement called Fascism.

Mussolini created a Fascist gang called the Black Shirts which sought to take control over Italy
