NEWSLETTERS ARE DISTRUBITED FORTNIGHTLY ON EVEN WEEKS.
Tena ra koutou ki nga hau e wha – Greetings to everybody.
It was mentioned in the last newsletter that student-led conferences will take place in the last week of this term, Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd of July. Booking information is available in this newsletter. Please be aware that classroom learning time finishes at 12:15pm and the bus leaves then also, on these days. There will be no teachers available to supervise children after 12:15pm, as they will be involved in supporting students with their conferences. Educare is available from 12:15pm and bookings are essential. We will be available in the library from 1:00pm till 7:00pm with refreshments for parents on both days. We are happy to supervise children in the library while siblings are having conferences.
For students, student-led conferences are an opportunity to: develop and extend their ability to talk about their learning, celebrate what has been learnt with their parents, clarify what they are learning and reflect on their progress, and confirms that they are learning to take responsibility for their learning. For parents, student-led conferences are an opportunity to: actively and meaningfully support their child in his or her learning, understand more fully what the child is learning and the progress that is being made, enjoy a rich learning orientated conversation with the child, and become aware of how much the child is taking responsibility for his or her learning. We hope you enjoy your child’s learning conference; it is expected that every child will participate.
We are in the process of a curriculum and strategic plan review, and are keen to have parent and whanau viewpoints in answer to the questions, “What do our children need to learn to prepare them for their future?” “What skills and attributes do they need to have?” To help with this we need to be thinking about the following questions: “What will work look like in 10 to 15 years?” “What could be happening in the world in 10 – 15 years?” “What environmental issues might we be dealing with in 10 – 15 years?” Post-it notes and a display board will be in the library during student-led conferences for your thoughts and ideas, and we will follow up with a Google form survey.
We extend a huge thank you to the parent support group for organizing our school disco and for making it such a special event. The crazy hairdos were a lot of fun and the hall decorations were fabulous. We are hoping for good weather on our Whanau Day, which will take place on Friday 28th June, finishing about 1:00pm after the hangi lunch. It will be lovely if you could join us.

• Current polo shirt remains as an acceptable uniform item.
• Hoodies will not be accepted from beginning of 2020.
• Black uniform bottoms compulsory from Term 3 (shorts, skorts & trousers) – PLEASE NOTE: Year 6 children can wear non-uniform black bottoms.
• Girls may wear black sockless leggings (tights) under shorts and skorts.
• Black long-sleeved tops are allowed under polo shirt.

Whanau Day 2019
Our annual Whanau Day is on Friday 28 June. It will start with a powhiri led by the children at 9.15 a.m. This is followed by activities around the classrooms until lunchtime when we will be providing a hangi for all to partake. This year we are not asking for donations of food but just for your time - time to come along and celebrate with us, and time to assist with the prep on Thursday 27 June 1.00 -2.30 p.m. We need helpers to wash and cut the vegetables and to make the stuffing. On the Friday morning we need people to help make the fry bread. If you are able to assist with any of these jobs, please let Paula, Vanessa, or Karen (Pod1) know. Colour Run Photos!!
By now, most of the children would have received their prizes (we are still waiting on a small number of prizes which should be here any day now). We hope they are all enjoying their rewards, and if there are any issues, please contact us at [email protected] Our fabulous photographers at Droneworx NZ have sent us through the group colour-throw photographs, and we are very excited to share these with you!! Thank you again to David Parry at Droneworx NZ for your fantastic photography on the day, and to Install IT and Lynn Trass Real Estate for sponsoring our colour, which meant all profits went straight back into our school. Student-Led Conference – Bookings Close Monday 1st July

and Wednesday 3rd July. School will close at 12:15pm on both the Tuesday and
Wednesday with the bus leaving at this time also. Hurupaki After School Care will be
available from 12:15pm until 5:45pm on both of these afternoons. Make sure you book
early to be sure of a space. From 1pm onwards we will have someone in the library to
look after children while siblings have their conferences. Sorry, this doesn’t include
pre-schoolers.

NO vehicles are to enter into school grounds to drop off or pick up
children between 8.10am – 8.45am and 2.15pm – 3pm; this includes no entry and NO PARKING
in top car park or at driveway entrances and yellow lines. Please help us keep our kids safe.

New Beeswax Wraps on Sale in the Office.
Children from Pod 4 have made the next batch of beeswax wraps. They are on sale in the office at $6.00 for the 30x30cm size and $5.00 for the smaller sizes. The 30x30cm is large enough to fit an adults overfilled sandwich and the 26x18cm are still big enough for a child’s sandwich. Mrs Posthumus uses the wraps to cover her lasagne and casserole dishes when she stores them in the fridge.
We also have kawakawa balm for sale at $8.00 for a small jar and $15.00 for a large one. All of these are much cheaper than you will find buying from a market or shop.
These both make perfect presents for all ages and the money goes to provide more environmental experiences for our children.
