Volume 3 Issue 15 17 November 2017
Dear Parents,
‘ARTS BY THE BAY’ AT GOLDEN BAY PRIMARY SCHOOL
‘Contrast and Emphasis’, will open next Monday , 20 November, between 3:30-7:00pm on school grounds for
the first time.
The open afternoon will include art and music activities, a massive display of student art work, musical
performances, and a P&C sausage sizzle. Each student will exhibit at least one piece of art expertly displayed
for everyone to enjoy. The activities and exhibition will take place in and near the undercover area.
Parking is available in the parent car parks on Tangadee Road and Arizona Parade. Entrance to the event will
be through the rear (oval) and side gates. Our students are very excited to share the fantastic work they have
created as part of The Arts program throughout the year. I look forward to welcoming you and celebrating the
fantastic music and art that will proudly be on display.
YOUNG CARERS WA
It was a pleasure to welcome Andi and Aslin from Young Carers WA to our assembly this morning. Andi shared
that there are 40 000 known young carers in Western Australia. Today, Andi and Aslin ran a parent session
before working with children in our school. Students eagerly learnt about how Young Carers are supported by
the service, and were actively engaged in many terrific activities.
I applaud the tremendous work of Young Carers WA and maintain an open invitation for Andi and Aslin to
return in 2018.
ZONES OF REGULATION
Congratulations to our young, but wise, year one students who talked, danced and
colourfully sang their way through all they’d learnt about the ‘zones of regulation’. Their
teacher Alyssa Marsh is very proud of the way they are demonstrating their knowledge of
the various emotions and, importantly, how the children are learning how to manage their
emotions.
INDIVIDUAL STUDENT SUCCESS
Sienna (pictured) was congratulated for her success in being selected for the girls twelve year and under State
Cricket Team. Sugar was equally congratulated for his selection to the boys Western Australian
Basketball Team. Super stars in the making!
Pictured in the background is our Award Winning Castaways Sculpture in readiness for
our ‘Arts By The Bay’ Exhibition. :)

VERY IMPORTANT - School Car Parks
We are very fortunate to have a total of 96 car
parking bays for parents and visitors in the
Tangadee Road and Arizona Parade car parks
down either side of the school. A further 28
indented parallel bays can be accessed roadside.
For safety reasons I allocated the car park at the
front of the school on Thundelarra Drive as a ‘Staff
Only’ car park. A number of families cross in the
‘walk area’ of the car park at the start and finish of
school.
Additionally, we have had four staff cars accidently
damaged by people in a hurry when using the staff
car parking area and one incident where a car
smashed in to our front fencing at home time.
With good reason, I respectfully ask that parents
not use this car park at all. The exception is for
parents who have a child with a disability requiring
close parking.

SUPPORT THE TROOPS
Golden Bay Primary School is participating in a Defence initiative - Support the Troops - where we send
parcels full of goodies to soldiers who are deployed overseas throughout the Christmas period.
We are asking our school community to donate something towards these boxes. We will be sending
donations to NSW Defence by 6 December who will in turn distribute them to soldiers overseas. These
soldiers are away from their loved ones during this special time of year and we are sure they will appreciate
your kind gesture.
Suggestions of what you might like to include:
Toiletries

Entry Donation at Grand Opening 3:30 - 7:00 Monday 20 November
Although this year's artwork will not be for sale, parents and families are requested to make a gold coin
donation or more to help support our arts program. Donations are greatly appreciated as they will help offset
the cost of framing the artwork and event set up. Please note that change will not be available with donations.
For each donation adults will receive a ‘people’s choice' vote which can be assigned to their favourite
artworks. All art works will be returned to students after the exhibition.

CENTENARY CROSSES PROJECT
Our Year 5 & 6 students worked very hard on their Centenary Crosses for the War Memorial in
Canberra. As background, the concept for this project originated in late 2010, when a group of
individuals based in Australia and Britain sought to pay their respects to those who had died while on
active service, by placing a small wooden cross on war graves across the former Western Front
battlefields of Belgium and France. The Australian War Memorial is broadening this initiative over
the Centenary years, 2014 – 2018. It plans to draw on the commemorative experiences of
school children by capturing, in the students’ own words, their individual reflections on those
Australians who have sacrificed their lives in war and other conflicts. These thoughts will take the
form of short messages on small wooden crosses, which the Memorial will arrange to be laid
throughout the Centenary period on war graves and memorials where Australian servicemen and
women are buried in countries such as Turkey, France, Belgium, Malaysia, Singapore, Greece, South
Africa and the Middle East.
There is so much gratitude and heart felt messages shown for our soldiers and we feel proud to send
our crosses to the War Memorial on behalf of Golden Bay Primary School. We have contributed just
under 100 crosses. A very special thank you to our wonderful teachers : Adam, Wendy and Talynt for
all their support and involvement with this project.
