Mini Prospectus of AIOU

The Allama Iqbal Open University, a Mega University, is a unique institution in many ways, providing educational facilities to masses aging nine to ninety. Being the distance educational institution of Pakistan, since its inception, has been serving the nation by producing a highly educated human capital. Taking a meagre start from an Elementary Arabic Course, the AIOU has now reached to the pinnacle-imparting education from grass roots level to Doctoral level in diverse disciplines.

Since every programme has a separate prospectus, therefore, it becomes impossible for the reader to find specific information about different programmes, like eligibility criteria, duration, mode of study, etc., at the same time. On many occasions these are not available on a single desk. To facilitate the students, faculty members and informatory staff at AIOU Main Campus and regions, the idea of compiling all such information in the shape of Mini Prospectus has been launched. The effort has been made to put basic information of all programmes of AIOU being launched presently in one booklet.

In the light of feed back received from different departments/faculties, necessary changes/amendments have been incorporated in this 2009 edition. From Autumn-2008 semester onwards, University has introduced credit hours scheme at Post Graduate level in place of Half & Full credit courses with an aim to bring AIOU degrees at par with the International standards. With this change, we have to make so many additions/deletions with regard to courses, credits, and fee etc. Although all possible efforts have been made to make this edition error free but there might be some mistakes and always provision remains stand for improvement. Research & Evaluation Centre would appreciate and warmly welcome the valuable suggestions/proposals/comments and free frank opinion from all sectors. These suggestions will be given due weightage in the next edition.

Allama Iqbal Open University was established in 1974 under an act of parliament with the nomenclature, the People's Open University. It was renamed as Allama Iqbal Open University in 1977 at the eve of the first centenary of the National poet and philosopher, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
