APICS Colorado awards $100 to each new CSCP and CPIM recipient. This month we passed out four crisp $100 bills. John Wood and Bob Bartusiak earned their CSCPs and Mike Kingzett earned both his CSCP and CPIM.

Congratulations on your achievements!

Well, January 2016 is already behind us. We finished up the Fall 2015 CPIM courses and we are ready to start the 2016 courses for CPIM and CSCP. You can see the schedules in this newsletter for specific locations and start dates. We still have some room in the classes for both programs, if you are interested in taking the courses, please register ASAP so we can get the books on order. Our public classes in 2015 were primarily instructed at DirecTV (now AT&T) in Englewood and at Hunter Douglas in Broomfield. I want to thank both of these companies for donating their wonderful training rooms to APICS on the weekends for our classes. These type of donations, not only gives us a great place to hold our classes but helps keep the cost of the courses down as well.

THANK YOU DirecTV and Hunter Douglas!

John Wood, CSCP Bob Bartusiak, CSCP Mike Kingzett, CSCP, CPIM

We have added two new folks to our APICS BOD’s in the Education area and we are very excited to have them join our management team. I mentioned it last month but wanted to remind you of their contact information. Karla Biggs-Gregory joined our BOD’s as Director of Materials / Registrar. Karla works at Oracle and will be coordinating our education materials and our course registrations. Please join me in welcoming Karla. She can be contacted at [email protected] Richard Babonas joined our BOD’s as the Director of Classes. “APICS has been offering classes at WhiteWave’s headquarters, which has been truly beneficial for our company. We recently completed the five CPIM courses, and had people from all areas of the supply chain enrolled. In a fast-paced, evolving field like Operations and Supply Chain, it’s important to stay informed with new practices and ideas. APICS allows busy professionals to gain important knowledge and skills while only committing a couple hours a week at class. It’s all possible because of the dedicated instructors that make learning easy with their passion to teach and real-world expertise.” Ben Osenbaugh, Fluid Transportation Logistics Specialist, WhiteWave Foods Company

What are Students saying about APICS Education in Colorado?

“Throughout my career I have learned anything you can do to set yourself apart from the competition is a great advantage which is why I initially took the APICS classes to pass the CPIM certification tests. By the end of the classes I realized that there were so many other areas of supply chain that I learned about and I am grateful for my expanded knowledge that I can apply in my work. Since getting my CPIM certification I have since been approached about a great promotion that will help take me to the next level in my career.” Heather Kniker, CPIM, AT&T Supply Chain Manager

“After recently obtaining my CPIM certification through the completion of all the APICS requirements, I can honestly

say it has greatly broadened my understanding and capacity to function at not only the tactical level, but also the strategic level within

the Supply Chain Management organization. The information and insight provided by the APICS instructors through the learning

material is truly invaluable in today’s complex, global realm of business.” - Brett Horacek, CPIM, CSCP, Supply Chain

Management, Hospira, Inc.

”I am a supply chain professional with nearly 20 years of experience, and I decided to take the CSCP exam to affirm my

knowledge and identify any gaps. I highly recommend the CSCP course as an effective and efficient method to prepare for the exam.

I took the exam within two weeks of the last class and passed with confidence. The classroom format works very well with five

Saturdays spread over a few months allowing for time between classes to catch up on reading. All of the instructors were more than

willing to share their personal experience and answer any questions about the content. The interaction and examples from fellow

classmates from different industries kept it interesting and real. Also, the variety of instructors, each with solid supply chain

experience, was a bonus. Based on my class experience, I've recently enrolled in the CPIM course.” Mike Kingzett, PMP, SCOR-

P, CSCP, CPIM, Global Manager Supply Operational Excellence, Orica Limited

”I recently was able to complete my CPIM certification and the education classes were instrumental in my success. I

took the first test without class and had to study 3 times more than I needed on any of the other courses. The interaction during the

classes with the instructor and other students help me remember items better and have a good sense of how things happen in the real

world and not just in the text books. The instructors that I had were very knowledgeable and able to answer any questions. The

instructors were also very receptive to helping outside of class. I don't think I would have been able to complete the entire certification

in 5 months without the classes and help from the instructors.” Michael Atwell , CPIM, Manager of Business Operations, Arrow

Electronics

“APICS classes have helped my critical thinking in assessing inventory liabilities. It has also allowed me to be a better gatekeeper of inventory management for Avaya. We have already begun to see the benefits.” Maria Martinez, Supply Chain Analyst, Avaya:

At the same time, they provide our teammates with an environment that inspires personal growth and endless opportunity. Amorphous Casting Amorphous Alloy Injection Molding, also known as amorphous metal casting, is capable of manufacturing complex geometries in large quantities using multi-cavitation tooling. This process uses a Zirconium based alloy manufactured here in the United States by the global leader in advanced materials, Materion. Precision Machining They specialize in manufacturing unique parts with superior strategy. Using cutting edge techniques, parts are manufactured for a wide variety of industries, ranging from injection molds to mission critical aerospace components. Additive Manufacturing Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) is a manufacturing technology that uses a fiber optic laser to fuse together layers of metal powder. The parts are "grown" additively, layer by layer, to create fully dense, complex parts within hours directly from 3D CAD geometry. It is possible to manufacture durable, fully functional prototypes and production parts for highly corrosive and high-temperature environments. Material properties of as-grown parts are similar to wrought materials and can be improved or altered with various heat treatments.
