Background

The misery of rural community of Chaksu block on the aftermath of 1981’s

devastating flood changed the mindset of Aadhar’s Founder Director, a geologist by

profession, to work in rural area for the cause of common people. He served rural

communities working with Social work & Research centre (also known as Barefoot

College), Tilonia for almost 7 years before the establishment of Aadhar.

Aadhar Shodh Sansthan (Aadhar Research Institute) a grass root level voluntary

organization was registered in late 1991 under Rajasthan Societies Registration Act

1958. Organization has started working with the support of local community to

promote all round development of rural society through an integrated development

approach.

Aadhar’s main working area is Chaksu and Dausa blocks of Jaipur and Dausa

districts respectively, the two neighbouring districts in the eastern part of

Rajasthan. Climate of these districts is subjected to extremeness of cold and hot

and except for the monsoon season weather is dry. Rainfall of the area is quite low

leading to severe scarcity of water thus affecting agricultural yield, poor availability

of fodder and drinking water. These factors force a large section of the society to

migrate to neighbouring cities and states for livelihood.

Objectives:

Being a grass root level NGO, “Aadhar” serves the underserved and unserved

sections of rural society with focus on the following major objectives:

To undertake all-round development of the socio-economically backward and

other deprived sections of the society

To provide formal and non-formal education through active participation of

various groups of the community

local populace

workshops, camps etc

To cooperate and collaborate with like-minded organizations, groups and

institutes and assist in development of new groups

To create awareness of the utility of solar energy, natural compost in place of

fertilizers, rain water harvestings etc

Mission:

To mitigate the hardship of village community by undertaking integrated

development activities.

Target beneficiaries:

Focusing on low socio-economic status of rural community, Organization is working

with the masses, mainly women, girl children and weaker sections of rural society

through various development programmes.

Activities carried out during the year-

1. Follow up of Reproductive and Child Health Rights Project:-

during 2005 -2010. This project was based on accessibility of RCH services in

rural area. Reduction of Maternal and child mortality, adolescent health their

rights, HIV- AIDS and survival of girl child up to the age of 5 years were the

issues taken care during this period.

Aadhar Research Institute/Aadhar Shodh Sansthan, Radoli, Jaipur

9

A follow up was planned with trained Community Health Mobilizers (CHMs) in

most of the projected villages after completion of this project. Role of CHMs

were to regularly interact with newly married couples, pregnant women,

lactating mother and with Adolescent girls. Attend panchayat meetings and

raise issues related to RCH issues in the meetings. Issues on development and

child care especially on support to ANM and Aaganwadi worker during

immunization drive were also considered by CHMs.

2. Women Self help groups :-

50 Self Help Groups of Women were formed in Dausa block with the support

from NABARD. Total 517 women were the members of these groups. These

women have collected Rs. 9,95,379 and out of this Rs. 8,84,358 were

distributed among themselves as loan. Loan taken by members were used for

repairing their houses, purchasing of goats, buffaloes, purchase of grocery items

for their shop and for purchasing seeds and fertilizers. Women also discuss

issues related to their health, education, children’s health and gender etc. during

meeting of the groups. We have noticed great changes in their economic, social

and mental status.

Aadhar Research Institute/Aadhar Shodh Sansthan, Radoli, Jaipur

10

They conducted monthly meetings and organisation personnel participated in

those meetings. Organization has also tried to link up these groups with Banks

so they could get more loans from them. Office bearers of all the groups were

also trained by the organisation in book keeping, record maintenance and proper

discussion of the issues in the meetings. Group members have experienced

about benefits of small savings, formation of groups is beneficial in taking

collective decision. This shows unity to work and discuss issued together leading

towards group strength.

non-school going or drop out Adolescent girls of age between 11 to 19

years has been surveyed. Total 45 Adolescent girls were selected for this

Camp. The basic reason for this survey was to conduct a residential 6

months Educational Camp cum Vocational training for girls. This Camp will

be useful for those girls who are illiterate and want to earn for her and for

the family.

time. This is due to insufficient rainfall and proper conservation of rain

water. Looking towards regular demand from the community Organization

has decided to carry out survey in water scarce villages of Chaksu block

to find out the real situation of water. 2 villages (Rupahedi Kallan and

Kupa ka Bas) were selected for water conservation activities; this was

planned through construction of Anicut and development of catchment

area of that particular village. Number of meetings with Panchayats and

the communities were carried out to specify activities Chaksu block where

people are either not having electricity or available electricity is

insufficient. Due to lack of electricity in villages/ Hamlets, people are

facing problem with Education, health and in-house self employment.

repair and maintenance of Solar lighting system. This will further develop

confidence among them and generate income.
