The event is free and open to the public. Fagan served as a columnist and feature writer for ESPN.com and ESPN The Magazine, as well as an on-air talent for ESPN for seven years. She frequently appeared on “Outside the Lines” and “E:60” and was a core member of The Friday Four. She also made more than 150 appearances on “Around the Horn,” and she served as the show’s first female host in 2017. Born in Schenectady, New York, Fagan is also the author of “What Made Maddy Run,” which spent one month as the No. 1 New York Times best- seller on the sports list. The 2017 book addresses the important issues of anxiety, depression and suicide in a perfectionist, social media-driven society. She is also the author of the memoir “The Reappearing Act” about her experience coming out as a women’s basketball student-athlete at the University of Colorado. In addition to her work with ESPN, Fagan is a sought-after speaker on athlete mental health and the variables facing female athletes. She served as commencement speaker at her alma mater in May 2017 while also routinely hosting events and moderating panels both for brands and non-profits. Dr. Elaine Harriss (above, left), professor of music, performed Jan. 19 as part of Amro Music of Memphis’s Saturday Steinway series. She performed Francis Poulenc’s fascinating setting of “L’Histoire de Babar” (“The Story of Babar, the Little Elephant”) for piano. “Babar” is a well-known French children’s book written and illustrated by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931. Dr. Richard Robinson (above, right), professor of communications, provided the narration, and slides prepared by Lane Last (not pictured), professor of art, showcased illustrations from the book.

The UT Martin Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble received word over the holiday break that they have been selected to perform during the International Tuba Euphonium Conference in Iowa City, Iowa, this summer. Dr. Bill Waterman, associate professor of music, leads the group and will join with musicians from both UT Knoxville and UT Chattanooga to present a system-wide ensemble. The is the second time the UT Martin group has been chosen to perform during this international conference.

Drs. Patrick Baker (above, left) and Anderson Starling (above, right), both with the College of Business and Global Affairs, and Dalis Lampkins (not pictured), a 2019 graduate, gave a presentation titled “The Impact of Deregulation on Reelfoot Lake Wildlife Refuge” during the 2019 Southern Political Science Association conference in Austin, Texas, this past month. Lampkins and her mentor, Baker, were also awarded UT Martin’s Smith, Henson, Sliger Undergraduate Research on Reelfoot Lake Grant in the amount of $4,000. Lamkins is the first grant winner outside the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Matters, an online journal for literary criticisms, translations, poetry and interviews. Through the journal, he has published works by several U.S. Poets Laureate and winners of the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Bollingen Prize.

His own poems have been published in platforms such as Best American Poetry 2018, Five Points, the Hopkins Review, the New Criterion, the Sewanee Review and the Yale Review. Wilson has also published multiple critical essays, which have received awards such as the Jacques Maritain Prize, the Eleanor Clark Award and the Sewanee Review’s Walter Sullivan Prize.

Wilson works as an adjunct professor at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and teaches in the Western State Colorado University graduate program. He also serves as the office administrator and chief financial officer of the Association of Literary Scholars, Critics, and Writers, a non-profit organization that supports the study of literature in academic and creative environments. He holds degrees from the University of Georgia, Johns Hopkins University and Boston University.

Reagan Leave awards are due this Friday, Feb. 1, to the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Reagan Leave can be awarded for a full academic year or a single semester. Proposals must not exceed three pages and should include the elements mentioned in the application cover sheet. Click here to see

Proposals for the Campus

Sustainability Grant are also due March 1 to the UT Martin Center for Sustainability. This grant is intended to fund a campus sustainability project coordinated by a student group during the 2019-2020 academic year and can provide up to $5,000 in assistance. Faculty and staff who sponsor student groups can submit online.
