Back to the 60’s: Mad Men Formal

April Fools! On April 1, Alpha Gamma had their annual Crown Ball formal. This year it was Mad Men themed and was held at the Diamond Banquet Center in Novi, MI. Everyone had a fabulous time dressing to the nines and getting down on the dance floor. We especially loved all of the food!

Rededication April 9th was our first rededication as a newly installed chapter. Rededication holds many of the important rituals that are found in initiation and helps us renew our dedication to Zeta Tau Alpha. It reminds us that Zeta is Forever!

Welcoming the Parents! Over the weekend of April 15th, Alpha Gamma hosted parents for our first annual Parents Weekend! The weekend fell on the Michigan Football Spring Game, which Michigan won! We hosted a dinner after the game & several families went to support sisters in activities they participated in over the weekend.

Senior Sendoff After our Parents Weekend activities subsided, we were able to honor our seniors. The seniors spoke about what Zeta means to them and they also “willed” gifts to underclassmen in order to keep traditions in the chapter. Each senior received a cookbook of recipes compiled by the chapter members as a gift to take into the real world. We will miss our fabulous seniors and wish them the best in the future!

First Annual Pink Ribbon Run: 5K in Nichols Arboretum

On April 3rd, the ladies of Alpha Gamma braved the weather for their first 5K race to raise money for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Though the skies were dark and the rain threatened to poor on the volunteers and racers alike, the day hit a high note for the girls. With over 200 runners and over 60 volunteers, Nichols Arboretum on the University of Michigan’s campus was donned in pink, turquoise blue, and steel gray for the day of the race.

We held a raffle to gain even more donations for the event including a FlipCam camera, a free massage, donated Victoria’s Secret merchandise, a Bluetooth headset, and an android tablet. Each runner received a

complimentary gift bag and a ZTA Pink Ribbon Run t-shirt, listing all the sponsors including Kroger, Underground Printing, Liberty Athletic Club, Hiller's, J&H Family Stores, Bob's Butcher Block, and Red Wing Line, whose donations ensured the race got off to a good start.

A local restaurant, Sava’s, allowed us to paint their front windows to publicize the event! All the hard work from the chapter and the immense participation of the community paid off. Our first race for the ladies of ZTA went superbly and the women, raising $4600 for the ZTA Foundation. A special thanks to all the sponsors who helped underwrite our event!

Play Ball! Opening weekend of the baseball season is a fun time for all, but this year Alpha Gamma got to participate! On the Sunday of the Detroit Tiger’s home opening weekend, over 50 sisters took charter buses to Comerica Park to cheer on the Tigers against the Kansas City Royals. It could not have been a more perfect day with 80 degree and sunny weather! Everyone had an amazing time and we hope to do another trip to Detroit in the near future!

Go Greek Awards 2011

The four Greek councils on the University of Michigan’s campus, Panhellenic, Interfraternity, National Pan-Hellenic, and Multicultural councils, come together to host an annual awards night to recognize excellence in the Greek community. This year, our executive board attended the 28th annual event that honored excellence in areas such as programming, philanthropy, and academic achievement: all things that are cornerstones of what Greek Life stands for. They also awarded honors for Chapter of the Year for each of the four councils. The evening consisted of a keynote speech by Angela Harris, Alpha Chi Omega’s National Vice President, who spoke to us about measuring the success of our chapters

by the amount of impact our programming has compared with how many people participate. We also honored Chris Haughee, the assistant director of Greek Life, who will be stepping down this summer from his position after six years of dedication to the University and the Greek Community.

In the awards category, Alpha Gamma earned special commendations for our Social Responsibilty and Philanthropy work. Our president, Taylor Krebsbach, also earned President of the Term for her work helping combat online bullying and going above and beyond in the Panhellenic Community.

We would also like to offer congratulations to Pi Beta Phi, Panhellenic Chapter of the Year and Pi Kappa Alpha, Interfraternity Chapter of the Year.
