Spring Time with Alpha Gamma

With Michigan’s incredibly early Spring Break, spring always comes early in Ann Arbor. We have been busy gearing up for the up for the end of school and finalizing plans to have things set when we come back in the fall. March brought Greek Week, Zeta Day, and several sisterhood events! We were featured by ZTA International Office on their Twitter and Facebook page and earned a PR star from Panhellenic for our Twitter!

Zetalympics In preparation for Greek Week, our sisterhood chairs planned a fun event called Zetalympics. It included several different “Minute-to-win-it” type games including seeing who could shake their head the most in a minute and seeing who could sort M&M’s into individual colors the fastest. It was a fun sisterhood to get into the competitive spirit!

Girl Scouts Service Project On Saturday, March 12, Alpha Gamma hosted two Girl Scout troops whose leaders were ZTA Alumnae. We gave the girls a spa day to help them earn a badge and teach them about growing up healthy. Each girl was able to participate in different stations that included nail painting, skin care, hair styling, and learning about fashion. The troops collected hygiene and beauty items to donate to a domestic violence shelter. We even earned a feature in the Ann Arbor News!

Viva Las Vegas: Greek Week 2011 During a 10-day competition in which we were paired with two fraternities, FIJI and ATO, we participated in many different events including Anchor Splash, Greek Olympics, and other fun events. The week culminated in the Sing and Variety competitions, the highlight of Greek Week. We won several events and the Spirit Award, which helped us earn Second Place overall!

Crown Town in Motown Every ZTA in the state of Michigan comes together to meet each other for our annual Zeta Day. This year, the Detroit Metropolitan and Detroit Alpha Alumnae Chapters hosted the event and brought in a speaker to talk about leadership. One of the most touching moments was seeing Jane Meadows Teagan receive her white violet pin, commemorating her 75th anniversary of being a member of Zeta Tau Alpha!

Recruitment 101

Throughout this semester, we have been working hard to prepare for recruitment in the fall. Although most of our preparation comes during the week before classes start, also known as Work Week, we still begin learning the basics well before school lets out. We have had several recruitment workshops already, including “What Not to Wear,” a workshop that included modeling appropriate attire for each of the rounds, and a workshop for our new members held by our Traveling Leadership Consultant, Kat Lopez, on the procedures of voting. The new members will also be attending an ethical recruitment workshop in April that is hosted by Panhellenic in order to ensure a fun, successful and fair recruitment process. Amanda Waske,

our Vice President of Recruitment and Katie McNally, our Recruitment Assistant, have been working hard putting together these workshops to help us be as prepared as possible for the fall. Below are the themes and apparel that we will be wearing in the fall:

Round 1 | Under the Sea | Turquoise Shirts,

Khaki Shorts, Metallic Sandals

Round 2 | Derby Days with ZTA| Pastel

Dresses, Nude Heels

Round 3 | Think Pink, Think Zeta | Pink

Blouses, Black Skirts, Black Heels

Preference | Zeta is Forever | Black Dresses,

Black Heels

Zeta Lady: Karen House Each year at Zeta Day, an award is given to the woman who best embodies what it means to be a Zeta Tau Alpha. In the words of our chapter, “Karen eats, breathes, and sleeps Zeta.” Karen is our current sisterhood chair and served last year as our Historian. She has completely reconfigured the sisterhood events and is a fabulous member in our chapter! Congratulations Karen! Emily Fraser and Karen House
