Alexandra Peers Editor-at-Large, The New York Observer Alexandra L. Peers is Editor-at-Large of The New York Observer, and was charged earlier this year with spearheading a substantial and unprec-edented expansion of its arts coverage.Formerly a reporter and editor at The Wall Street Journal, Alexandra began writing on the art world 22 years ago and was the first U.S. reporter to cover the billion-dollar field primarily as an industry and as a market. (Back then, a controversial, even Philistine, approach.) In 1998, she helped found The Weekend Journal, which greatly expanded the paper’s arts and entertainment coverage. In 2002, she became its Features Editor, still keeping an eye on rising art prices, the power elite and the world’s growing fascination with the art market.Named one of Avenue Magazine’s Fifty Women of the Arts in New York, she has spoken at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Hermit-age, The Smithsonian, The Appraisers Association of America, The Young Presidents Organization, the National Endowment of the Arts’ journal-ism conferences, has appeared often on NBC news and was invited to participate in the White House Conference on the Arts in 2000. She has taught at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and Wesleyan University and won the 2006 Barach Fellowship for Nonfiction Writing. Her articles have appeared in New York Magazine, Conde Nast Portfolio, The New York Times, Art News and The Art Newspaper. At The Observer since March, Alexandra is overseeing an expansion of art coverage, with new and particular attention being paid to the city’s museums, auction houses, artists and its 300-plus galleries. Her goal, and that of her talented colleagues, is to make the Observer Arts section required reading in New York.

Skate’s mission is to develop and commercialize products and services that will help shift the balance of power in the art investment world from intermediaries to collectors, investors and artists themselves.
