AASHTOWare Improvements
• Target virtualized server environments by default• Remove SAS requirement from BAMS/DSS• Provide more web based applications• Allow for an additional product end user designee, who would
be able to download product updates from vendor web sites• Standardize web servers to IIS and reporting to Crystal
Reports (Business Objects)• Improve timeliness and quality of product and documentation• Expedite implanting enhancements and new features
AASHTOWare Improvements (cont.)
• Modify pricing model so that larger states pay more than smaller states
• Faster support for new technologies• Integration with ERP systems• SOA architecture that can be accessed by non-AASHTOWare
applications• Less free text, more pick lists
Recommendations / Comments
• Consolidated agencies no longer fit the traditional model. An objective position on consolidation would be appreciated.
• Due to purchasing/contract services processes and fiscal cycle, would like to receive the annual commitment package much earlier than the middle of June.
• It would be interesting to know generically whether states had any in-house developed software that they consider a best-in-breed that they would be willing to see developed into an AASHTOWare product.
• Question 13 should be more specific. Identify the type of performance management (i.e., pavement, highway, etc.)
Recommendations / Comments (cont.)
• AASHTOWare products should be awarded through an RFP process to ensure competitive pricing, improve timeliness of product delivery, and to eliminate vendor complacency. (This was also submitted last year.)
• The survey needs to ask which business functions the agency supports in order to get an accurate assessment of the workload that the IT staff support. (For example: not every DOT supports ports of entry, some DOTs support drivers licensing while others do not, some DOTs support sea ports while others do not, etc.)
