What Is Barbering?Barbering consist of haircutting, shaving, trimming the beard, coloring the hair, applying hair tonics, permanent waving, facial and scalp massages, treatments with oils, creams, lotions or other preparations either by hand or mechanical appliances.

Training Leading to CertificationLearn the art of barbering, and prepare for the N.C. Board of Barber Examiners certification exam and apprentice license.

After at least one year of on-the-job training another examination is given by the Barber Board to issue a Registered Barber License.

Workforce Continuing Education

• 1 year program (1,620 hours full time and 1656 hours part-time). Day and evening classes offered.

• Classes are held at Wake Tech’s conveniently-located Public Safety Education Campus (PSEC), 321 Chapanoke Road, Raleigh.

• Wake Tech’s Barbering School is an affordable alternative to other area barbering schools.

• Prefer students with a High School Diploma or equivalency certificate.
