5 Pillars of Islam

1. Declaration of Faith (Shahadah)

• Prayer is the direct link between you and Allah. Main form of worship. • How many times a day must we

2. Perform Prayers (Salah)

• We are responsible to take care of the poor by giving an obligated charity (zakat) to those in need.

• To ensure this takes place, Allah has obligated for us to make an annual payment of 2.5% of our wealth and assets to the poor.

• This payment only becomes an obligation if our wealth is above a certain level.

• There are 8 categories of people who are eligible to receive zakat (Quran 9:60)

4. Fasting in Ramadan

• The pilgrimage (the Hajj) to Mecca in Saudi Arabia is an obligation on every Muslim to perform once in their lifetime.

• Hajj is performed by following the rituals done by the Prophet Muhammad.

5. Perform Pilgrimage (Hajj)

If someone is travelling they can combine their prayers.

If someone is travelling or sick they can skip that fast and make up later.

When a woman is on her menses cycle the obligation of praying is lifted and she doesn’t have to make them up.

If someone is old or poor they don’t have to perform Hajj?

1. Belief in Allah• To believe in One God. Same God for

all of mankind. In Arabic – Allah•Allah is the Creator and Provider of

3. Belief in Divine Scriptures• To believe Allah sent down divine

revelations to His Messengers.•We accept all the past

revelations in their original form, however, they no longer exist. • The final revelation is what we

follow.

5. Belief in Judgement Day• To believe in life after death. •After a period in the grave, all of

mankind will be resurrected from the state of death on Judgement Day. •All of our deeds, good and bad,

small and large are recorded by Angels in our book of deeds.

6. Belief in Divine Decree• To believe that everything that

happens to us has been decreed by Allah. •Our knowledge is limited. The

Knowledge of Allah is limitless, He is Loving, Wise and Just, so we believe His decree for us is the best.
